Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of all areas of child protection and is vigilant in identifying possible risks. She is aware of the steps to take should she have concerns about children's welfare. The childminder values opportunities to keep up to date with current development. She enhances her qualifications and experience by selecting and completing relevant training. She uses this knowledge to reflect on current practice and identify where improvements can be made. For example, following training, the childminder now uses her knowledge of each child's pattern of thought and behaviour to enable her to plan activities that are even more appropriate to each individual child.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides babies and children with interesting toys and experiences that engage and motivate them. She provides a narrative as they play, introducing them to new words and repeating phrases back to them. This contributes to the good language and communication skills that children demonstrate. The childminder accurately observes and evaluates play and immediately re-shapes or extends activities to improve children's learning. She makes good use of her knowledge of children's interests as one of the ways she extends children's learning. Children are given time and space to solve problems for themselves. When completing simple shape puzzles, they are allowed to ponder and try out their own ideas. The childminder remains close by for support if needed.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is friendly, caring and patient. She provides an exceptionally warm and welcoming environment, which supports children to quickly develop secure attachments. Children's emotional and physical needs are well supported. Music and dancing are an integral part of daily activities. Children giggle infectiously as they dance and sing along to familiar songs. The childminder encourages children to make healthy choices. Children are supported to learn about managing personal hygiene. They enjoy a range of healthy meals and snacks, and experience regular fresh air and exercise. Parents place the childminder in high regard, commenting on how caring and accommodating she is.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. They develop skills that support their learning and prepare them for the next stage in their education, such as nursery or school. Children are confident in selecting resources that interest them and are eager to engage in the wide range of activities provided. They are busy and remain focused on activities for prolonged periods.
