The childminder fully understands how to respond if she were to have any concerns about a children's welfare. The childminder's evaluation of her provision has strengthened and targets for identified improvements are implemented very well. For example, the childminder has recognised the need for even more opportunities for children to explore the natural world. She has plans to collect and purchase resources for this purpose. The childminder uses a range of risk assessments, policies and procedures to help her keep children safe wherever they play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder skilfully adapts activities to engage all ages of children in her care. For example, she provides a wide variety of writing tools and differing sizes of paper. This helps to ensure all children have opportunities to develop early writing skills. The childminder encourages children's communication and language skills well. She speaks clearly and provides a running commentary of what children are doing. This helps children to effectively develop their speaking skills. The childminder has developed her assessment skills effectively and she uses children's interests in cars to plan activities that extend their learning and development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop a strong sense of belonging in the care of the childminder. They settle quickly on arrival and are relaxed in her presence. The childminder offers constant praise and encouragement. This helps build children's confidence and self-esteem. The childminder provides healthy snacks for the children and talks about how fruit is good for them. Children are beginning to develop a good understanding of the impact healthy eating has on their bodies. The childminder helps children to develop their physical skills. She takes children out on trips to the local park where they can run and climb freely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. Children demonstrate good mathematical skills. They show high levels of interest in solving number problems. Children sort shapes into colours and recognise which groups have more or less. Younger children competently count out a given number of objects and follow instructions well, for example when asked to tidy up or sit at the table. Children develop the necessary skills that prepare them for their next stages of learning and eventual move to school.
