Outcomes for children Requires improvement

p.1

This is a provision that requires improvement

n The childminder does not always provide children with healthy, balanced foods to eat while they are in her care. n The childminder is slow to seek opportunities for professional development and does not implement change quickly enough to help her improve her teaching. As a result, she still does not consistently plan activities that provide children with challenge that helps them to make good rates of progress. n The childminder does not monitor children's progress effectively to ensure she plans activities that precisely meet their individual needs. This hinders their development. n The childminder does not establish a regular two-way flow of information with parents and other professionals working with children to aid her plans for children's care and development. n Self-evaluation processes are not rigorous enough. The childminder does not take swift action following feedback from other professionals, such as the local authority and

Ofsted, to drive forward continuous improvement in her setting.

p.1

It has the following strengths

n Children are confident and new children settle into the setting well. The childminder forms caring relationships with children and supports their emotional needs effectively. n The childminder reminds children of the rules and teaches them to share with others and how to play with toys safely. Children behave well. n Children have opportunities to develop their social skills with others, such as during outings to the local children's centre.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date ensure children are provided with healthy, nutritious meals and that they are taught the importance of having a healthy diet 28/02/2019

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies and procedures. n The inspector viewed the parts of the premises used for childminding and talked to children at appropriate times. n The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children and the activities they engaged in. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder about children's learning and of how she reflects on the quality of her service.

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a suitable knowledge of child protection issues and knows how to report any welfare concerns. She works with other agencies to help her develop her practice. She has taken some action since the last inspection. For example, she successfully teaches children how to keep safe, such as during outings. However, not all aspects of her practice have improved to ensure consistently good outcomes for children. The childminder's self-evaluation processes are not successful in helping her to address all weaknesses. She has not developed her professional knowledge appropriately to help raise the quality of her teaching and assessment.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement

Overall, the childminder provides a range of age appropriate, interesting experiences for children to engage in. She provides children with some suitable interactions to help aid their learning. For instance, she joins in during activities and teaches children the names of objects, to help develop their language skills. The childminder has implemented some changes to her assessment processes, although this is in its infancy. She makes some observations of children and knows some things they are able to do. However, overall, she does not monitor children's progress effectively to ensure she consistently provides learning opportunities that challenge children and extend their learning. This hinders children's progress. The childminder shares information with parents about what children have done during the day. However, she does not establish a regular, two-way flow of information between her and other settings children attend to ensure a continuous

approach in meeting children's care and development needs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement

Children learn to do things independently and are able manage their own personal needs themselves, such as washing their hands. The childminder teaches children about good hygiene practices suitably. Children benefit from being physically active, such as while using ride on toys and a slide at the childminder's home. They successfully practise their physical skills. However, at times, the childminder does not ensure that children eat nutritious foods or teach them about the importance of a healthy diet. In addition, she does not always share appropriate information with parents regarding healthy eating to ensure a consistent approach to children's care and physical well-being.

p.3

Outcomes for children require improvement

Children make typical progress given what they knew when they started. However, they do not receive enough support for their next steps in learning to help them make good or better progress. Children gain some skills for future learning. They explore writing resources and enjoy drawing. They share their ideas and are confident to talk to others.
