Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure awareness of the signs to be concerned about in relation to child protection matters and wider safeguarding issues. She knows the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. This helps to keep children safe. The childminder completes risk assessments of any outings undertaken and a daily check of the premises, to ensure children are kept safe. She works well in partnership with other childminders to share good practice ideas, extend her skills and keep her knowledge of changes up to date. The childminder is aware of her responsibility to work in partnership with other settings that children attend, to aid continuity in learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's mathematical skills well, For example, children learn about colour, shape and number as they complete a creative activity using different coloured shapes. Children excitedly find a green triangle and glue this onto their paper plate. They concentrate well and persevere as they stick the different shapes to the plate. The childminder ignites children's curiosity as children play with the toy dinosaurs in a tray that contains leaves. She supports children's communication skills well as she introduces new words, such as 'crinkly' and 'delicious', to extend children's growing vocabulary.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder gathers detailed information from parents about children's care routines at the start of the placement. She replicates these routines within her setting to meet children's individual needs and preferences. The childminder is kind, patient and gentle in her interactions with children. Children form strong attachments to the childminder and happily talk with her about what they are doing. The childminder provides healthy food choices for children and encourages good hygiene routines. This helps children to learn about leading a healthy lifestyle. When children climb onto a chair, the childminder gently reminds them that this is not safe and they may fall and hurt themselves. This supports children to learn about keeping themselves safe. Children explore different festivals and traditions to gain an understanding of similarities and differences. For example, children explored noodles and painted pigs when looking at the festival of

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make typical progress from their starting points and gain the key skills needed to be ready for school, when the time comes. Children behave well and are keen and interested to learn. They develop their physical skills as they competently climb the steps on the slide outdoors and keep trying until they put the correct pieces into the inset puzzle.
