p.1

This provision is good

n The childminder develops warm, trusting relationships with children in her care. This helps to support younger children's self-confidence and emotional well-being. n Children behave well. The childminder places a strong focus on helping children to learn about positive behaviour. She is a good role model and in return, children learn how to be polite and courteous as they play cooperatively together. n The childminder is committed to providing good-quality care and learning experiences for children. She regularly reads widely to continually improve her knowledge and skills, such as developing how she supports children's communication and language. This has a positive impact on the progress children make. n The childminder has not informed Ofsted of a serious event, which is also a requirement of the Childcare Register. However, this does not have a significant impact on children's welfare as the childminder took swift and appropriate action to maintain

children's physical welfare. n The childminder does not sharply focus her planning of activities for children's individual learning needs, to help accelerate their progress. n The information the childminder gains from parents when children start attending is not always detailed enough to help her to identify children's starting points in learning from the outset.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date ensure Ofsted is notified of any serious illness, injury or accident as soon as reasonably practicable and within 14 days of the incident occurring. 08/02/2019

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

n sharpen the planning of activities provided so that they consistently build on what children need to learn next to help them achieve as much as possible in their learning n gather more detailed information about what children know and can do on entry to the setting, to plan more swiftly and precisely for their ongoing learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector spoke with the children and the childminder at convenient times during the inspection. n The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's progress. n The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. n The inspector took account of the written views of parents provided on the day of the inspection. n The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and looked at a selection of children's records and safeguarding procedures, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe. She maintains a safe and secure environment for children to play and learn. She completes robust risk assessments and knows how to take effective action to minimise risks to children. The childminder has not notified Ofsted of a significant event that happened in her setting. However, this does not have a significant impact on children's welfare. The childminder maintains an up-to-date paediatric first-aid qualification and knows what action to take in the event of an emergency, to maintain children's physical welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibility to keep children safe, including how to report any child protection concerns. The childminder reflects on her practice well. She gains the views of parents and children and takes account of their views. For instance, she uses ideas from older children about

activities they would like to do, to promote their choices well.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She provides a wide range of interesting toys and resources. The childminder captures opportunities within their self-chosen play to build on their learning. For instance, she shows children how to turn on switches to operate musical toys. The childminder places a strong focus on building children's communication and language, effectively using new skills she has gained from training. For instance, as younger children pick up a toy caterpillar, the childminder sounds out this word clearly. Children hear this and repeat back the new word clearly and confidently. The childminder regularly keeps a close check on children's progress and shares children's key achievements with parents. This includes the progress check for children aged between two and three years. Parents speak positively about how this keeps them informed of their children's progress and helps them to effectively

promote their children's learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is kind, caring and uses her gentle tones with children to help them settle happily. The childminder has a good understanding of the individual care needs of each child and attends to these well. This helps to positively promote children's physical needs. The childminder uses good opportunities to help teach children about healthy lifestyles. For instance, she provides children with nutritious meals and snacks and ensures children benefit from daily opportunities to gain fresh air and exercise. Children benefit from opportunities to learn about the wider community. For instance, they enjoy trips to the local park and meet with their peers to help develop their good social skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning. They are confident and motivated in their learning and develop good communication and language skills. For instance, as younger children bath their dolls, they point out and name different parts of the dolls' faces and bodies. Children gain an interest in literacy. For instance, they enjoy choosing books and settle happily on the childminder's lap as they confidently learn how to turn pages and point out characters in stories.
