the ideas of children, parents and the local authority to enhance her setting further.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend children's mathematical understanding through activities and daily routines.  Occasionally, the childminder is not precise or consistent in her pronunciation of letter sounds.

p.1

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child. She works efficiently with a number of professional agencies to get the best possible support for her families. Since the previous inspection, the childminder has accessed a range of training and personal development opportunities which have had a positive effect on outcomes for children. She rigorously monitors and tracks children's progress across all areas of learning. This helps to ensure that any concerns in their development are identified swiftly and support is timely to help them catch up quickly.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children well. She skilfully engages them in purposeful discussions as they play. This challenges their thinking and helps to develop their understanding to a high level. The childminder uses a range of good teaching skills to support children's language and communication. For example, she uses visual prompts such as puppets to engage children in exciting rhyme times. Children are supported to make choices in their play, and they enjoy making colourful patterns with glitter and paint. The childminder creates areas of interest for the children, supporting their emerging curiosity; for example, they play indoor tennis with balloons and small rackets. Children enjoy trips into the community. They have opportunities to develop their literacy skills as they follow the pictures and words on their shopping lists, learning that print carries meaning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder supports children's well-being extremely well and children form strong attachments with her. They are settled and confident in her care. Children behave well. They display high levels of confidence and are willing to have a go and try new things. Children's individual care needs and routines are understood and met. Their physical development is also well supported and they enjoy opportunities to play at the park or in the childminder's well-resourced and exciting garden. Children learn about nature as they wait for the hedgehogs to visit the hedgehog hotel. They identify the birds that feed at the bird table and help to tend to the strawberries they are growing for their snack.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in all areas of learning from their starting points. They have well-developed language and high levels of understanding. Children are happy and confident and behave well. They show increasing independence and sustain good levels concentration as they play. Children are well prepared for their next stages in learning.
