This provision is good
n The childminder is committed to her own professional development. She continually researches information to keep herself up to date and gathers ideas to develop her practice. n The childminder welcomes feedback from parents, carers and children, and acts on their suggestions. For example, she has implemented regular meetings to discuss children's learning. This means that parents and carers are fully informed about their child's development. n The childminder is proactive in working in partnership with other settings that children attend. She establishes early contact and shares useful information so they can work together to provide consistent support for children's learning. n The childminder has recently improved the organisation of the toys and resources to further promote children's self-chosen play and their interests. Children make purposeful choices about the resources they need for their play. They continue with

their self-chosen play for long periods of time and have good levels of concentration. n The childminder thoroughly explores why children may be behind in aspects of their learning and provides focused support. Parents and carers express how supportive the childminder is when children have delays in their learning. As a result, children start to catch up quickly and the gaps in their learning are reducing. n The childminder carefully researches new ideas before implementing them. For example, she explored different ways of monitoring children's progress before introducing her own effective system. n Children form good bonds with the childminder and positive relationships with each other. Parents and carers praise the childminder for her effective behaviour management methods. They comment on how well mannered and behaved their children are. n On occasions, the childminder does not give children enough support to join in with

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a confident understanding of child protection issues, including how to progress any concerns about children. She has completed a variety of different training courses to develop her knowledge of a wide range of child protection issues. The childminder implements her risk assessments effectively. She checks the environment continually to ensure that it is safe for children. For example, she uses the deck area when the lawn area is wet or slippery. The childminder promotes children's good health and hygiene. She consistently implements good hygiene practice, for example when changing children's nappies. She plans and makes the children's meals so that she can include lots of vegetables.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children's learning and makes accurate assessments of their stage of development. She has regular conversations with parents and carers so that they can agree consistent support for children's learning. The childminder is also proactive in encouraging parents and carers to seek additional external support for children where appropriate. The childminder skilfully encourages children's exploration and investigation skills. For example, children notice that the glue spreader will not twist open. The childminder prompts them to think about why and then test how to open it. Another child is fascinated with a jewel that has embedded itself in the glue. The childminder encourages them to explore how to remove it and, after giving them plenty of opportunity to experiment, she makes suggestions of what they could do.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder ensures that children have varied opportunities to play outdoors on a daily basis. She provides a range of carefully considered outings to support different aspects of learning. For example, children attend a weekly forest school session to further develop their understanding of the natural world. Children understand and follow the routines, for example washing their hands before eating. The childminder provides age-appropriate explanations to help children recognise how to manage their own good health and hygiene. She makes good use of opportunities during play to help children recognise how to keep themselves safe. For example, she explains why they should tidy away some of the toys.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning. The childminder provides focused support for those children who are at lower than expected levels in their development. All children show high levels of interest and patience in exploring and investigating how things work. Children have good control of their small-muscle skills. They handle very small objects with ease and manipulate them to create their artwork. Children make good attempts to peel their orange at snack time. They listen carefully and show that they can understand and follow instructions. Children adapt well to new situations and show confidence when they meet people for the first time. They develop the skills they need in preparation for school.
