Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed safeguarding training and has a clear understanding of the possible indicators of abuse. She understands the procedure to follow should she have concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder is conscientious in providing a safe environment for the children. She completes regular risk assessments to ensure the environment is safe. The childminder works well with parents and other professionals involved in children's care and learning. Parents are pleased with the good progress, care and support their children receive. The childminder reflects well on the service she provides, identifying her setting's strengths and the areas to improve. She updates her teaching well, which has improved how she supports children's mathematical development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children confidently play in a welcoming, friendly environment. The childminder plans activities that reflect children's interests and which link to their next steps in learning. She successfully supports children's imaginative play, such as through favourite books and role-play activities, joining in with them to develop their creative thinking. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their early mathematical skills. Children count on their fingers and explore counting down to zero. Children develop strong skills to be independent, such as when making choices in their own play. The childminder is extremely vigilant in monitoring children's engagement in activities. She intervenes at appropriate times to support their learning, and teaches them about keeping themselves safe in their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. They clearly demonstrate that they feel safe and confident in the childminder's home. The childminder is a positive role model, and teaches children to respect boundaries and each other. For example, she encourages children to find solutions to share resources and take turns in their play. Children are caring and kind to one another and respect their environment. The childminder praises them for their achievements. She supports children's health and well-being well. She provides a good range of nutritious snacks and meals, and encourages handwashing at key times. Children have opportunities for regular exercise, for example, on their daily outings to playgroups, school and parks with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make steady progress from their individual starting points and receive effective support in their next steps of learning. They develop friendships and grow in confidence with the childminder. They show good concentration during activities. For example, they persevere to cut up fruit for snack time. Children are developing skills that will help them as they move to the next stage of their learning. This is because the childminder is skilful at identifying and supporting any gaps in children's learning.
