Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has good knowledge of safeguarding procedures to protect children. The childminder risk assesses environments used by children. She takes steps to minimise possible hazards to help keep them safe and secure. The childminder teaches children to be aware for their personal safety. For example, they practise road safety and talk about items that could be hot. The childminder reflects on her practice and values the views of parents and children. Since the last inspection, she provides more opportunities for children to practise writing for a purpose and plans a wider range of outdoor play experiences.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and make progress. To successfully extend children's learning and play experiences, the childminder uses good teaching methods. For example, she helps young children to solve simple problems by twisting tubes of paint to make it appear. She introduces new words and asks questions to help develop children's speaking and listening skills. The childminder supports children to make choices and follow their interests in their play. She encourages young children to use interactive toys and to find out how they work, such as cash tills, calculators and telephones. Children develop good creative skills and imagination. For instance, they paint, explore tactile materials and act out during role play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming and homely environment. She is a positive role model and encourages children to use good manners. Children learn about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. For example, they know they need to wash their hands before enjoying nutritious snacks. Children develop good physical skills; they use a range of apparatus and enjoy dancing to music. The childminder successfully supports children's understanding of the natural world. For example, they enjoy outings to the local park where they feed the ducks, observe fish and collect leaves and pine cones.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Young children make good progress from their starting points. They develop good self- help skills, for example, they learn to dress and feed themselves. Children use mathematical language as they play, for example they identify numbers, colours and shapes. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as transfer to nursery or school.
