Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a strong knowledge on how to keep children safe. She has a clear understanding of reporting procedures and attends appropriate training to help her recognise when a child is at risk of harm. She completes regular and precise risk assessments of her home, and of the places she visits with the children. The childminder has formed strong partnerships with parents and they speak incredibly highly of her nurturing and caring manner. She has created an environment where parents are given countless opportunities to share information and contribute to their child's learning and development. For example, the childminder has created an 'at home wow chart', where parents can share the children's achievements from home, so that she can also celebrate these with the children. The childminder uses effective tools to monitor children's progress and to spot any gaps in learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is consistently good and at times outstanding. The childminder follows the children's individual interests constantly, adapting activities where necessary. The childminder is an excellent communicator and plans many activities to support children's language. She has adapted activities so that younger children who are not yet able to communicate can be fully involved in the decision-making process. For example, she has created a 'song bag', where children can choose a song by pulling something out of the bag that represents that particular song, such as a star for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are extremely happy and secure, and have developed strong attachments with the childminder. She provides them with a caring and nurturing environment where they can explore and discover in their own ways. The childminder encourages the children to be independent, for example, she gives them jobs to do during tidy-up time and the younger children attempt to feed themselves during snack time. She spends a great deal of time teaching the children about how to be kind, well mannered and respectful to others. She has provided the children with many opportunities to learn about different cultures and faiths. For example, she has created a 'celebration tree' which she changes regularly to reflect cultural or religious events that children are learning about.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are highly motivated learners and they explore the learning environment with enthusiasm. Children make good progress in their learning and they are effectively developing the skills they need to help them move on to the next stage of learning. Younger children are progressing quickly with their physical development. They explore and discover in their environment, and take appropriate risks where necessary.
