p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder has taken prompt action to address weaknesses identified at the previous inspection. She has attended recent safeguarding training and understands her role and responsibilities to safeguard children. n The childminder provides children with a comfortable and accessible environment. Children confidently explore a good range of quality resources to help promote their learning and development of new skills. n Children are happy and settled as they demonstrate secure emotional attachments with the childminder and her assistant. They enjoy cuddles and playing fun games both outside in the garden and inside the home. n The childminder is skilled at finding learning opportunities arising from children's curiosity. For example, when children are excited by the discovery of magnets on the trains she takes this opportunity to talk to them about how these work. n Parents share very positive views about the service the childminder provides. They

comment on the stimulating and varied experiences their children enjoy. They also share how they value her professionalism and the good support they receive. n All children, including babies, benefit from lots of fresh air and exercise, which contributes to their good health.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not consistently involve parents in the review of their children's ongoing progress to ensure they are able to contribute towards setting goals to support the next steps in their child's learning. n The childminder monitors her assistants' practice through observations of their interactions. Despite the childminder committing to her own professional development, a precise plan for the professional development of the assistants is not yet established, to build on their skills and knowledge.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder has reflected on all aspects of her provision since her last inspection. She demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of the early year's foundation stage requirements. She maintains a comprehensive range of policies and procedures which contribute to keeping children safe. Both the childminder and her assistant are clear of procedures to follow where there are concerns about a child's welfare. They know how to report and manage allegations therefore, safeguarding is effective. Good teamwork contributes to the smooth running of the service. For example, the childminder can prepare food and manage routine tasks while the assistant is able to continue to support children in their play. The good working relationships support children to understand and learn how to work together positively. The childminder knows the children well. She is knowledgeable about their levels of development and uses this

to plan appropriate challenges to support their progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are happy and motivated in their play, because they are supported to make choices and to follow their interests. For example, when older children finish playing a game they are encouraged to suggest what they would like to do next. The childminder follows their wishes and sets up a drawing activity in the garden. Children are developing good listening and communication skills as adults encourage them to express themselves and to talk with each other. Children are proud of their individual assessment folders which contain valuable photographs of their achievements. They are excited to reflect on past experiences that they enjoyed. Children are provided with fun challenges in their play as they are encouraged to listen to the different sounds of the musical instruments they play. They enjoy exploring the natural garden environment where their curiosity is enhanced as they observe and learn about risks. The childminder supports older

children to climb the small tree when supervised.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are confident in their environment as they enjoy warm relationships with the childminder and her assistant. They are developing valuable independence skills as even the youngest of babies enjoy exploring the garden under vigilant supervision. They have fun playing with sand as they are encouraged to pour and touch this natural resource. Children show respect to one another as they respond without prompting to help retrieve a toy that a younger child has dropped. They behave well and demonstrate a positive self-esteem when they are praised for being helpful and kind.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress in their learning. Older children are developing skills to prepare them for their move to school. For example, they enjoy finding hidden letters in the garden which they are then encouraged to use to spell their names. They are able to manage their personal care as they hang up their own coats and wash their hands independently in readiness for lunch. Children know when they are thirsty and hungry and confidently access water to drink and request fruit as a snack.
