This provision is good

 The provider and staff have made good improvements since the last inspection and have successfully met the actions raised. They have been proactive in updating and strengthening their knowledge to raise the quality of teaching, learning and assessment and improve outcomes for children.  The experienced and well-qualified staff regularly observe children and provide activities that reflect their interests and support what they need to learn next.  Children are well behaved. Staff are positive role models and know children and their families well. Children play well together and take good care of each other.  Parents are kept well-informed about their children's progress. Staff provide parents with ideas and activities to do with their children at home to help continue their learning.  Children are happy, confident and enjoy their time at the nursery. They demonstrate that they feel emotionally secure. Older children confidently engage in conversations

with practitioners and visitors. Babies readily seek out their key person for cuddles and comfort when needed.  Staff provide a stimulating environment, indoors and outdoors, with a wealth of opportunities and resources for children's play and exploration.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff could make more precise use of observations and assessment to plan as effectively as possible for the children's next steps in learning.  Occasionally older children are not given enough opportunity to be independent.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection and took account of their views.  The inspector spoke to members of staff and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the provider.  The inspector held discussions with the provider. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of staff.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since the last inspection, the management team has worked very hard to improve and develop their practice. Safeguarding is effective. The provider implements appropriate recruitment, induction and vetting procedures. Staff understand their duty to help keep children safe. They know the signs that may suggest a child is at risk of harm. Staff know where to report concerns about children's safety and what to do if they have concerns about the conduct of another member of staff. Practitioners complete regular risk assessments and follow secure routines for ensuring children's safety at all times, both inside and outdoors. They ensure that correct ratios are maintained. The provider monitors practitioners' practice closely and provides the necessary support, including ongoing training, to improve their performance. The provider works well in partnership with local schools. This contributes to children's successful transition into school.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff provide safe and stimulating environments for children. They work hard each day to set up activities which capture children's interests. Children have been exploring creepy crawlies outdoors and creating their own using paper mache. Staff narrate carefully as children play, to support their language development. For example, staff say words which rhyme when gluing, 'rip, dip and stick'. The recently refurbished outdoor area provides exciting play opportunities for children of all ages. Toys and resources are arranged well and inspire children's curiosity and imagination. They have a planting garden and they enjoy watering the plants and picking the fruits or vegetables that have grown. Staff talk to the children about what plants need to grow and ask 'what do we need to grow?'. Staff show genuine warmth and care in their interactions with children.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children and their parents are warmly welcomed into the nursery. All children settle quickly, are happy, confident and secure. They develop strong bonds with staff and each other. Staff teach children the importance of healthy lifestyles and provide children with a healthy range of snacks and meals. Staff give lots of praise to children during activities, supporting their sense of self-esteem. Any challenging behaviour is managed very well by calm and patient staff. The provider and staff have a good understanding of risk. For example, staff ensure they deploy themselves effectively across the play areas to supervise children well.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are reaching a typical level of development for their age. This includes children that were behind when they first came to nursery. Children maintain their focus well on activities of their choosing. They learn to use mathematics as they sing a song about jelly fish, deciding which one will fall using the paper creations of jelly fish they have made. Children gain essential skills that help to prepare them for their next stage of learning, including school.
