This provision is good
The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and uses this effectively to enhance children's learning experiences. She improves children's outcomes well. The childminder is particularly skilled at supporting children's communication and language development. For example, children benefit from her consistent use of a rich vocabulary. Parents say she improves their children's language skills significantly. The childminder is gentle, considerate and kind. She skilfully nurtures children's emotional well-being. They are secure in their relationships with her and flourish in the warm, caring atmosphere she creates. Parents praise the childminder and the care she provides. They receive regular, detailed information and are supported in being fully involved in their children's learning. Children benefit from the continuity in their learning. The childminder provides a stimulating range of resources and activities. She supports

all areas of children's learning effectively. Children make good progress from their different staring points.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
While the childminder makes detailed observations about children's learning, she does not consistently monitor their progress as effectively as possible.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

review how children's progress is monitored to help identify how they can make even better progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children as they were engaged in a variety of activities. The inspector looked at the rooms and resources used by the children. The inspector considered how the childminder reflects on her practice and her partnerships with parents. She looked at a range of documents. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she observes and assess the children's progress, and how she meets their care needs. The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder clearly understands the signs and symptoms that may cause concern about the welfare of a child in her care and knows the referral procedures to follow. She has made herself aware of how to identify children who may be at risk of exposure to extreme ideas or behaviours. The childminder regularly attends training to enhance her professional development. She uses the skills and knowledge she gains effectively to support, for example, children's good behaviour in her setting. The childminder makes good use of detailed risk assessments. For instance, she has put strategies in place to help her keep children safe while they are out on their regular local outings.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is secure in her understanding of how to support the learning of young children. She observes them carefully and uses this information to plan interesting activities based on their immediate interests. For example, children excitedly talk about their favourite sea creatures then hunt for them in sand. The childminder provides children with time to explore and practise new skills. They concentrate on cutting wooden fruit using a simple tool and are delighted by their own achievement when they master this new skill. Children's physical development is supported as they enjoy regular walks in nearby green spaces and explore local woods. They delight in learning about the natural world as they experience being outside on a snowy day or jump in puddles in the rain.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are secure, happy and behave well. They benefit from interesting opportunities to learn about the local community and other people whose experiences may be different to their own. For example, children delight in travelling on public transport and visiting local museums. The childminder supports children in carrying out simple tasks and they happily participate in tidy-up time. Children learn about leading a healthy lifestyle as they eagerly eat their favourite fruit and think about when they need to wash their hands. Children regularly participate in activities with larger groups of children of different ages. Their social skills are enhanced, for instance, as they enjoy picnics together in the park.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children confidently use their learning to express themselves. For example, they describe how they have created a pretend shop and request that others join in with their play. Children use their emerging literacy skills to explore letters and mathematical learning to count and talk about shapes. They direct their own learning and delightedly plan their own activities. Children are self-motivated, curious and interested in the world around them. They are prepared well for the next stage in their learning.
