This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good and children make good progress in all areas of their development. Children eagerly take part in exciting learning experiences that capture their attention. The childminder carries out assessments of children's developmental progress and uses the information effectively to plan for the next step of their learning. Children build secure relationships with the childminder, which help them to feel emotionally secure. Children are very happy and settled, and have formed good attachments with the childminder and each other. Children's health and physical development are promoted effectively. Children are cared for in a safe and well-organised environment. Children enjoy healthy snacks and nutritious meals to meet their individual needs. The childminder reflects on her strengths and areas of development. She generally uses feedback from the local authority adviser and parents to help improve the quality of her

provision and raise outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully explored professional development opportunities to improve her knowledge and existing high-quality teaching still further. The childminder does not engage parents as fully as she could in gathering information about children's initial stages of development when they first start attending.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

focus even more precisely on professional development plans so that they are more targeted in developing teaching to the highest level give parents every opportunity to share information about their children's learning from home, particularly when children first start attending.

Inspection activities
The inspector talked with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection, and jointly observed children with the childminder. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions during activities indoors and outdoors, and looked at a range of resources and equipment. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about policies and procedures, and methods of assessing and planning for children's progress. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including records relating to children, and looked at written feedback from parents. The inspector looked at all areas of the childminder's home used for minding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. She checks resources and her premises daily to ensure all areas are suitable. Children have a strong awareness of their own personal safety. For example, they learn to remove obstacles from their path when using the tricycle in the garden. The childminder works in partnership with parents generally well. For example, she keeps parents informed of their child's day and ongoing developmental progress once they have settled into her care. They in turn are happy with the service they and their children receive. The childminder completes the required training, such as paediatric first aid. She generally keeps her knowledge current via the support offered by her local authority.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how to support children's development and encourages them to be independent from a young age, such as in selecting their own play. The childminder provides a good balance of resources and plans activities that are well matched to children's individual stage of development and their interests. The childminder gives her full attention to children as they play, and allows them to play at their own pace with not too much direction and interruption. They in turn play for long periods at activities, and spend their time purposefully engaged. The childminder undertakes regular observations, tracking and assessments to help support her to monitor children's ongoing developmental progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder teaches children to respect other people, share and take turns. For example, she makes good use of local under-fives groups where children meet other children and learn to share toys. Children are physically active and have daily opportunities to explore the local community, such as the park spaces, and visit the library and local farm. The childminder provides children with a good range of healthy food and drinks, which helps to promote a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress across all areas of learning to support them to be well prepared for the next stage to start school. Children effectively foster skills in their independence and self-help skills, such as putting on their shoes. Children develop strong language and communication skills. This is strongly evident with children who start with no skills in speaking and understanding English, who now speak clear sentences beyond their age expectation. Children show a keen interest in early writing and mathematics. For example, they learn to recognise shapes and numbers, and compare sizes.
