This provision is good
The childminder has been minding children for many years and continues to enjoy her role. Her kind and gentle approach enables children to form strong attachments and feel safe in her care. The childminder offers a welcoming and homely environment where children can freely explore the range of resources on offer. She interacts with children well and helps them to develop their independence from a young age. The childminder models calm, respectful and polite behaviour. She consistently offers praise and encouragement to help children achieve well and grow in confidence. Partnerships with parents are strong. Information is exchanged regularly to support children's care and learning. Parents report that the childminder has a genuine warmth and affection towards children and makes sure their day is varied and enjoyable.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not focus sharply enough on children's individual needs when planning adult-led activities. This means, at times, activities for the youngest children are not always suited to their age and stage of development. The childminder does not use highly effective ways to share information and work in partnership with other settings children attend to further support their learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen the planning of adult-led activities to consistently help younger children to achieve as much as they can from their learning experience build closer links with other settings children attend to promote a shared approach to meeting their care and learning needs.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection and took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to follow child protection policies and procedures to help keep children safe. She understands how to assess risks to children's safety and makes sure that any renovation work to her home is done outside of childminding hours. The childminder seeks opportunities to increase her knowledge and skills. For example, she attended a course on speech and language. This helps her to become more confident in assessing children's communication skills. The childminder keeps a regular check on children's development. She uses feedback from parents to help her evaluate and improve her practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers a variety of experiences for children to enjoy, including trips to the museum and picnics in the park. She accurately assesses children's skills and, overall, she uses this information to help her plan activities to promote their next steps in learning. The childminder communicates well with children as she plays alongside them. She responds positively when babies babble and mimics their sounds to encourage their early language skills. Babies watch and listen to the childminder as she builds with the stacking cups and counts allowed. They show curiosity when they look at musical books and learn to turn the page.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and comfortable in their surroundings. The childminder is clearly fond of the children and they form close bonds with her. This is evident in the way babies crawl after her when she leaves the room to prepare snack. The childminder promotes children's good health and supervises them closely, particularly when they are eating. She helps babies to wash their hands after she has changed their nappy. This encourages them to learn good hygiene routines from a young age. The childminder provides healthy snacks and tells babies how clever they are when they feed themselves, helping to boost their confidence.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning during their time with the childminder and gain the skills that prepare them well for their future learning, including school. Babies are nurtured and well cared for. They explore their environment with interest. They develop good-physical skills as they crawl around and pull themselves up to stand using the furniture. They enjoy some sensory experiences, such as feeling the texture of paint and water on their hands.
