This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not have a valid first-aid certificate, which compromises children's safety. The childminder has failed to follow the correct procedure to inform Ofsted about changes to her circumstances which could affect her suitability to care for children. The childminder has not kept her knowledge up to date regarding requirements in the early years foundation stage.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder monitors the progress that children are making regularly and plans activities that are well suited to their individual needs and next steps in learning. All children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder is sensitive, caring and kind towards children. This helps them to build strong relationships and supports their emotional well-being. The childminder consistently praises children's efforts and achievements, which helps them to grow in confidence and self-esteem. The childminder builds good relationships with parents. During settling-in periods she involves them in establishing where children are in their learning and development so far. This helps her to cater for their individual needs from the onset of care.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and had discussions at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of relevant documentation, including evidence of training, policies and procedures and children's assessment files.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands what action to take if concerned about the welfare of a child in her care. She completes risk assessments of the setting to help minimise possible hazards to children. The childminder has some knowledge of how to deal with accidents and emergencies. However, she has not updated the required first-aid training. She evaluates the effectiveness of her provision and asks parents for their views in order to improve further. The childminder has addressed the recommendations from her last inspection. Children now have opportunities to practise their early writing skills and are well supported in their physical development, when learning to stand and walk. The childminder has accessed a few professional development opportunities. However, she has not kept up to date with statutory and other government requirements. The childminder has also failed to follow the correct procedure to ensure

that Ofsted receive up-to-date information regarding changes to her circumstances.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder enthusiastically joins in children's play to support and extend their learning. She shows children how to use resources in order to encourage them to try new things. For example, exploring some new sand, squeezing it together with both hands and talking about how it feels until the children join in by copying the action. The childminder utilises opportunities to promote children's mathematical thinking. For example, she counts each stacking cup as she places them on the floor and counts each step as children climb upstairs. She allows children time and space to use their problem-solving skills. For example, they try to work out how the shapes fit in the different holes on the shape sorter. Children enjoy sharing stories and singing songs. This helps to support their communication and language skills. Parents are kept well informed about children's learning and development through daily discussions and an individual journal.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder has failed to update her knowledge of first-aid procedures or inform Ofsted about changes to her circumstances. This compromises the safety and well-being of the children in her care. However, children benefit from a welcoming environment which they can explore independently. For example, they investigate an aeroplane with a propeller that spins around and lights up when they press a button. This helps to motivate and excite children to learn. They enjoy playing in the garden and going on trips to the park and local lake. This helps to promote children's physical well-being. The childminder supports children to develop their independence. Amongst other things, they learn to feed themselves and enjoy splashing in the water while washing their hands. Children are happy during care routines, such as having their nappy changed or drinking their milk.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are settled, happy and have formed secure emotional bonds with the childminder. They are working comfortably within expectations for their age and make good progress from their starting points. They develop the key skills needed in preparation for the next stages in their learning and in readiness for school.
