p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has reflected well and taken effective steps to improve since the last inspection. For example, she carries out thorough risk assessments of her home to identify and minimise any potential hazards to keep children safe. The childminder values the views of parents and proactively identifies ways to develop.  The childminder assesses children's level of development and provides activities that ensure they make good progress in all aspects of their learning, including communication and emotional development.  The childminder provides a welcoming environment where children feel secure and are happy to play. Children form good relationships with the childminder and have a strong sense of belonging.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not engage the parents fully in their children's development to provide better consistency in their learning between home and setting.  The childminder asks children questions in quick succession without giving them the time they need to think about their answer and respond.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 engage parents more fully in their children's learning, to share what children learn at home, to help provide consistency between home and setting  give children the time that they need to think and respond to questions.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector took account of parents' views from written comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has good awareness of how to keep children safe in her setting and when out on visits. She knows the possible signs that would alert her to a concern about a child's welfare and the correct procedure to follow to keep them safe. She is aware of the duty to prevent children from exposure to situations that may put them at risk of significant harm. The childminder attends training to enhance her skills. She regularly meets with other early years professionals and keeps up to date with developments in childcare practices, which benefits children. The childminder reviews children's progress and promptly identifies gaps in their development. She helps parents to access additional professional support for their children if needed.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a range of resources that enables children to explore and develop different skills. She uses her knowledge of how children learn to support and extend their learning further. The childminder interacts well with the children and actively involves herself in their play. She skilfully promotes children's mathematical awareness. For example, she encourages them to count toys, compare and sort according to size and colour. The childminder encourages children's interest in books. For example, children retell their favourite songs and stories and use props to bring the story to life. Children thoroughly enjoy playing a magnetic wooden fishing game. Children have excellent coordination and confidently identify the animals they catch. The childminder encourages children to talk about where each animal lives and what sounds they make.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's independence well. She organises her resources and space successfully to enable children to make choices in their play. The childminder praises and encourages children in their play, developing their good self-esteem. Children have many opportunities to experience their local community and to play outdoors. For example, they practise their physical skills when they use large equipment at the park. Regular visits to local groups enable children to socialise with large numbers of children and support their social development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident, individual learners who are eager to explore and discover. They develop positive attitudes to learning and concentrate on activities that capture their attention. They remain focused while they complete puzzles independently. Children gain the skills they need to prepare them well for their next stage in learning and for their eventual move on to school. They are effective communicators, enjoy listening to stories, use number in their play and behave well.
