This provision is good

 The childminder has made significant developments to her practice since the last inspection that improve outcomes for children. She now evaluates her setting effectively to identify and address areas for further improvement.  The childminder assesses children's progress accurately and uses this information well to plan for their individual learning needs. Children make good progress in preparation for their next steps in learning and for school.  Children enjoy their time with the childminder and develop positive relationships. The childminder is a good role model and teaches children effectively about behaviour.  The childminder supports children's learning well. She gives them lots of attention, support and guidance to help them achieve and to encourage a positive approach to learning.  The childminder supervises children closely and follows effective safety procedures to reduce the risk of accidents and incidents.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not make the best use of opportunities for younger children to think about their responses during discussions to encourage their language development further.  The childminder occasionally does not teach children about good hygiene effectively or support their independence fully.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 allow younger children more time to think about their responses during discussions to encourage their language skills further  develop better consistency when teaching children about hygiene and encouraging their independence.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities indoors.  The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed activities together.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records, the childminder's self-evaluation form, written comments from parents and evidence of the childminder's training and qualifications.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what to do if she has concerns about children's welfare. She has improved safety procedures, such as when transporting children in a vehicle, to help keep them safe. The childminder shows a strong commitment to professional development. For example, following training and obtaining a qualification, she identifies more carefully any gaps in children's learning and provides successful play activities to address these. The childminder works closely with parents and other settings that children attend to encourage consistency in children's learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder engages well in children's play and follows their interests effectively. She provides a narrative, models a range of vocabulary and makes suggestions to encourage children to explore ideas and build successfully on their previous skills. The childminder challenges children to develop their coordination and to understand new concepts. For example, she teaches children how to balance objects and add strength to simple structures as they enjoy building towers and making model trains with construction blocks. The childminder encourages parents successfully to share information about their children's learning at home, and she provides ideas for them to support children's progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps children to be respectful and kind to others. She encourages them to develop a positive attitude to people who are different from themselves. For example, she helps them to become aware of different cultures and customs as they enjoy making musical instruments from another country. The childminder tends to children's welfare needs effectively overall, such as providing nutritious meals and regular opportunities for fresh air and exercise. She teaches children about rules and consequences successfully to help them learn how to keep themselves safe.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good levels of confidence and older children communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively. Younger children understand simple instructions and they learn to repeat words and phrases as sound foundations for their communication skills. Children develop good imaginative skills as they engage readily in make-believe play. They develop an enjoyment of books through regular story times and visits to the library. Children enjoy learning about different countries and exploring different cultures through a good range of creative activities. They know the words and actions to songs that help them understand simple addition and subtraction.
