Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder and her assistant. She looked at relevant documentation and checked the suitability of adults living and working in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant understand how to keep children safe and promote their welfare. They are aware of the importance of recording and reporting any child protection concerns and they both hold current paediatric first-aid certificates. This helps to ensure that children receive suitable treatment in the event of any accidents. The childminder evaluates her activity with the children and involves her assistant in identifying how they can make changes to respond to children's changing needs. The childminder has developed effective partnerships with the local school and pre-school. This contributes to children receiving a consistent approach to their care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy the childminder's company and her enthusiastic, yet gentle interactions with them. She knows the children well and provides activities that promote their interests and learning. Children are supported to acquire communication skills and are developing an awareness of mathematics. The childminder talks to them about what they are doing. She is effective in playing alongside children and in following their lead. For example, she starts to count during an activity with toy animals, the child makes animal sounds, such as 'woof', and the childminder follows this by confirming this is the sound the dog makes. Later, the child is keen on the numbers and says some numbers repeatedly as she plays. The childminder makes regular assessments of children's progress. She shares this with parents and values information they provide from home, taking account of this for other activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children respond positively to the childminder and her assistant's very kind and caring approach. For example, they snuggle onto their laps when they are tired and they laugh and giggle at jokes together. Children are confident in the childminder's home. They are familiar with the daily routines and know where to find the toys they want. Children are beginning to develop an awareness of healthy lifestyles. They play outside and go for walks in the fresh air. Children are provided with healthy meals and snacks after discussion with their parents about any specific dietary needs. Children's behaviour is good. They are provided with activities they are interested in and they benefit from a consistent approach from the childminder and her assistant.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy their time with the childminder and they are encouraged to make choices and be active in their own learning. They take part in a good range of activities that widens their experience. Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They are developing skills that help prepare them for starting school when the time comes. Children are encouraged to be independent, share, work together and respect one another.
