This provision is good
The childminder is experienced and the quality of the childminder's teaching is good. She matches the range of resources very well to children's interests, and children show good levels of involvement as they play. This has a positive impact on children's progress. Children behave well and the childminder and her assistants are good role models for them. The childminder gives children lots of praise. This encourages them to share, take turns and work as a team during activities. The childminder assesses children's progress accurately and works closely with parents to identify children's level of development when they first start. This helps children settle into the care smoothly and helps develop their self-esteem and confidence. Children enjoy visiting local groups and the park. This helps them to learn about the world around them, and helps develop their physical and social skills. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting high-quality

provision. She regularly updates herself and networks with other childminders. This has resulted in a positive impact on the learning experiences she offers for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder misses opportunities to extend children's understanding about safety and risks. Although the childminder evaluates the quality of her provision well overall, she does not focus her evaluations on her assistants' practice and knowledge to help raise the quality of her provision even further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed and evaluated a planned activity. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistants and children throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants have a clear understanding of the process to follow should they need to report any concerns about a child's well- being. The childminder ensures that her assistants are suitable to work with children and understand her policies and procedures. The childminder monitors children's development regularly to identify any gaps and addresses these in a timely manner. She works closely with other professionals to help children make good progress in their development. She builds effective partnerships with parents, who comment on the childminder's efforts to support their children's learning and well-being.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes thorough observations and assessments of children's learning and interests. She uses this information to plan for children who are actively learning through play. They participate in the activities, use the resources available to them and persevere well during planned activities. They maintain concentration for a good amount of time in relation to their age. Children thoroughly enjoy scooping pebbles, using a spoon to place the correct amount on the matching number cards. They talk about the different sizes of spoons, such as medium and small. The childminder supports children well to develop their mathematical skills. She uses good communication skills to engage with children and extend their learning during activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming, stimulating and safe environment for children to explore and in which to play. She regularly evaluates the use of her home, making sure children have enough space to explore and learn. For example, she created an additional learning space in her garden. The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote children's well-being. Children have daily opportunities to be active outdoors, have periods of rest and enjoy their healthy snacks. They develop close attachments with the childminder and her assistants, and build good friendships with other children. The childminder ensures children are happy and enjoy their time with her.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop very good communication skills and initiate conversations that are relevant to the activities. For example, when they see scarves in the pictures they talk about how they have lost theirs. Older children are learning playfully how to add and take away during planned activities. They are confident and full of self-esteem when they get ready to play outdoors. For example, putting on their shoes and coats independently. All children make good progress in their development, ready for the next stage in their learning.
