This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not check the number of children attending each day well enough. On some occasions, she looks after too many children at one time. The childminder does not support and coach her assistant effectively to help continually improve their good teaching practice. For example, to develop the skills to maintain children's attention during activities.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children are happy and settled. The childminder and her assistant develop close caring relationships with children and support their good behaviour and social skills effectively. The childminder and her assistant engage with children in a positive way. They extend children's learning effectively. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder and her assistant establish effective partnerships with parents to meet children's individual needs.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed indoor and outdoor activities. The inspector checked documentation, including children's attendance registers. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector talked with the childminder and her assistant. The inspector talked with parents of children attending during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of child protection procedures. They risk assess effectively and supervise children well to keep them safe. The childminder does not leave children with an assistant for more than two hours a day without parents' permission. They both hold appropriate first aid certificates and know how to attend to any injuries or emergencies. Since the last inspection, the childminder has improved how she assesses and tracks children's progress and supports their physical development. However, she does not monitor or support her assistant well enough to enhance her teaching practice. The childminder does not consistently meet the adult-to-child ratios and has on occasion looked after more children than requirements allow. However, the childminder and her assistant supervise children to keep them safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of activities and experiences which motivates children to learn. The childminder uses children's individual interests to plan a range of activities that challenges their learning. For example, children follow forest trails related to characters in their favorite books. Children explore a wide range of media and use their imagination. For example, they make collages using glue, dried leaves, cardboard tubes and paint to create patterns. The childminder and her assistant show children how to use the resources successfully. As a result, children develop a good sense of achievement.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a positive role model for children to copy. Children are motivated to learn. For instance, they enjoy playing musical instruments to create sounds while the childminder and her assistant sing. The childminder adapts activities to provide children with good challenge. For example, she encourages older children to choose picture cards from a bag and to think and say which song they relate to. The childminder and her assistant develop children's confidence and independence effectively. The childminder supports children's good health. For example, she provides lots of opportunities for them to be active indoors and outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills they need for starting school. They gain good control of their movements. For example, they jump into ball pools, learn to ride scooters and use wands to blow soapy bubbles. Children develop good pre-writing skills. For instance, they draw pictures which they put in a local post box to send to their parents.
