This provision is good
The childminder shares her policies and procedures with parents so they know how she intends to keep their children safe. She talks to parents daily and informs them about their child's learning and care. The childminder gathers the views of parents to help her to review her provision. Changes to equipment and resources help increase the range of experiences children receive. Settling-in sessions are effective and help new children to form close bonds with the childminder. Children settle well and show a close emotional attachment to the childminder. For example, babies go to her for a cuddle when they are upset or tired. The childminder uses her observations and assessments effectively to identify what children need to learn next. She has a good range of resources, which are changed regularly, to support the learning and development of the different ages of children she cares for. The childminder gathers information from schools about what children have been

learning and she complements this in her setting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not plan activities to match the interests of some children to ensure their full involvement and enjoyment. The childminder's programme of professional development is not highly focused to help raise the quality of teaching and learning to a higher level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

review the planning of some activities to consistently reflect the interests of children and thereby increase their level of involvement Focus the programme of professional development to help raise the quality of teaching and learning to the highest possible level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through reading the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder completes the progress check for children aged between two and three years and shares this with parents. She advises them to share this with their child's health visitor. This helps parents to understand their child's levels of learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended child protection training. She is aware of where to report any concerns about children's welfare or safety. The childminder reminds parents not to use their mobile phones in her home. She uses safety equipment to stop children from accessing her kitchen. This helps to keep children safe. The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn about how to keep themselves safe. For example, she carries out a fire evacuation procedure with them and talks to children about road safety when walking in the street.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a friendly and inviting home. New children demonstrate that they are confident and that they feel safe and secure. They move freely around the childminder's home, selecting resources independently. The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn about their local community and the wider world. For example, she takes children to the local park to help develop their physical skills. She talks to children about diversity and shows them pictures of people from other countries. The childminder sings songs with children to help encourage their early communication and language skills. She includes number rhymes to help develop children's counting skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to manage their feelings and behaviours by providing consistent messages about positive behaviour. For example, she gives children lots of praise and encourages them to share and take turns. The childminder takes children to local toddler groups to help develop their social skills. Children play and mix with other children and learn key skills in readiness for their move onto school. The childminder promotes children's independence. For example, she encourages them to put on their shoes and coats and provides opportunities for younger children and babies to feed themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points in learning. They develop an understanding of technology as they press buttons on toys and anticipate the sound it will make. Children enjoy moving their bodies to the sound of the music, they smile and laugh with the childminder. Babies pick up objects they have knocked over and pass them from one hand to another, developing their handling skills. They develop muscles in their legs and pull themselves to standing by holding onto furniture and the childminder's legs.
