This provision is good

 The childminder provides children with interesting and challenging experiences which help them to become keen and motivated learners. Children make good progress from their starting points.  Children are visibly happy, settled and confident in their learning environment. The childminder establishes warm, caring relationships with children and supports their emotional well-being effectively.  The childminder completes thorough risk assessments to minimise hazards and teaches children how to keep themselves safe successfully. Children are well cared for in a clean and stimulating environment.  The childminder regularly identifies relevant training and support for herself and her assistant. For example, she recently attended training to develop ways to support children to learn about respect and value differences between themselves and others.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses some opportunities to encourage children to use their home language to further assist their learning experiences.  The childminder does not fully encourage parents to share what their children learn at home, to complement future plans and to support their progress further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 take every opportunity to encourage children to develop and use their home languages to support their learning  involve parents more fully to share information about their children's learning at home, to further support the assessment process.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children engaged in activities, including their interactions with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder and spoke with children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector and the childminder jointly observed children at play and evaluated an activity together.  The inspector looked at areas of the premises used for childminding and sampled relevant documentation, including children's records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder monitors the quality of her practice effectively to help improve her provision. Since her last inspection, she has addressed the previous recommendation. For example, she plans children's outdoor play experiences more effectively to support those who prefer to learn outside. The childminder monitors children's progress well to ensure that any identified gaps in their learning are narrowing. Overall, she shares this information with parents to promote consistency in children's learning and care. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough understanding of child protection and she keeps up to date with new safeguarding guidance. She implements effective procedures to help protect children from harm.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She uses good teaching strategies, and effective systems to monitor and plan for children's next steps in learning. The childminder interacts well with children to extend their early communication skills. For example, she reads stories using good expression and tone in her voice to capture and hold young children's attention successfully. She skilfully extends their learning. For example, she effectively encourages them to repeat new words and point to familiar objects in books. The childminder builds on children's early mathematical development well. For example, younger children enjoyed matching and sorting toys in boxes and the childminder encouraged them to count and identify colours.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is affectionate and attentive to children's individual needs. Children respond well to her calm and consistent approach and their behaviour is good. The childminder encourages children's self-care and independence skills effectively. For example, children have good opportunities to lead their own play and help to tidy up the books and toys. The childminder helps children to learn the importance of healthy lifestyles. For instance, she provides nutritious options at mealtimes and teaches children about the importance of washing their hands. Children have regular opportunities for exciting outdoor activities and exercise.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Younger children show good levels of concentration and persevere well at tasks. They grow in confidence, and are happy and confident learners. For example, children enjoy visits to local playgroups where they socialise well with other children. Younger children are eager to join in with the well-planned activities, which help them to think and learn new skills. Children develop a wide range of skills needed for their future learning and their eventual move to school.
