who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements. She plans challenging and interesting activities that motivate children to learn. For example, children selected their favourite stories and the childminder encouraged the older children to read the books to the younger children. She then extended children's learning by encouraging them to sound out the basic words and praised them during the process. The childminder continually models good language and uses skilful questioning to encourage children to think and ask questions during activities. For example, children had fun playing with play dough and the childminder engaged them in conversation, teaching them colours, numbers, shapes and basic calculations. This prepares children very well for their future learning when they move on to school. Children enjoy physical activities in the childminder's garden. However, the childminder does not always have in place outdoor

good

The childminder's home is welcoming and she has a wide variety of good quality resources that engage children's interests. She is a good role model and plays alongside children, helping them to learn the skills they need to share, take turns and behave well. The childminder encourages children to develop independence in many basic skills to prepare them well for their next stage in learning and for school. For example, children help to tidy up and manage their personal care needs well. Children benefit from regular trips to the park and playgroups to develop their social skills, physical abilities and confidence. Furthermore, they develop positive attitudes to the diverse community, which helps them get ready to move on to nursery or school.

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements. She evaluates and monitors children's progress effectively to ensure that any identified gaps in children's learning are narrowing. She shares this information with parents and other settings involved with children, which helps to promote continuity in children's learning and care. The childminder identifies relevant training for her assistant that supports him in his role.
