This provision is good

 The childminder reflects on her progress well. She has addressed the actions and recommendations set at her last inspection to develop her practice. For example, she has a good understanding of the two-year-old progress check and regularly shares information with parents about their child's progress.  The childminder provides a wide range of stimulating activities linked to children's interests. Children are engaged and motivated in their learning. Children make good progress.  Children are settled in the childminder's care. They form good relationships with her and feel comfortable. Children understand they have choices in their play and are confident to voice their opinions.  The childminder uses a range of highly effective strategies to support children's listening, speaking and understanding. For example, she repeats words for children in both their home languages and English to further support their communication skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not make the best possible use of opportunities to support children's understanding of healthy lifestyles.  The childminder does not offer many opportunities for children to learn about the differences between themselves and others in society.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase opportunities for children to learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles  develop the opportunities for children to learn about differences between themselves and others in society, to increase their knowledge of the world.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector engaged with the children during the inspection.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector observed the children during their indoor and outdoor play activities as well as their snack routine.  The inspector looked at a sample of documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation, risk assessments and a selection of policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe and the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child's well- being. The childminder understands the importance of keeping her knowledge and professional skills up to date. For example, she uses the support of other professionals and childminders to share good practice and help identify any improvements she can make to benefit the children. The childminder works closely with parents to get their feedback to reflect on the service provided. For example, parents meet with the childminder and complete regular questionnaires to share their views. The childminder tracks children's progress effectively to identify their achievements and target any gaps in their development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She regularly observes children and tracks their development effectively. She identifies what children are interested in or need to learn next, helping to ensure they all make good progress. For example, the childminder provides a wide variety of activities around animals to support children who have become interested in this area over the summer. These include a vet's role-play area, a sensory farmyard and animal print painting activities. Children enjoy opportunities to help develop their imagination and creativity. For example, they make 'eggs' as they explore dough and decorate animal masks.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well and are kind and considerate of their friends. They listen and follow instructions well, and have a good awareness of the setting's boundaries. For example, they help tidy up after activities and put toys away. The childminder encourages children to be independent and they are confident at making their own decisions. For example, they choose what they would like to play with, dress themselves and are learning to manage their own care routines. The childminder ensures that children follow good hygiene practices. She reminds them to wash their hands after messy play and before they eat. The childminder regularly praises children for their achievements. This helps to raise their self-esteem and confidence.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They concentrate well during planned activities and are eager to learn. Children develop good numeracy skills. For example, children recognise numerals and match them to the correct amount during play. Children are motivated to be involved in song and story time. They enjoy using props and join in with different actions. Children are developing the necessary skills for their future learning.
