This provision is good
Children are happy, active and motivated to learn. The childminder supports them to gain confidence in their abilities and they gain new skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning. Regular exchange of information with the parents and other early years settings that children attend helps to promote good continuity for children's learning. Parents comment positively on how well the childminder and her assistants get to know their children and support their learning. Children make good progress in their learning. They are provided with a broad range of enjoyable and stimulating activities and experiences, indoors and outdoors. Good use is made of the outdoor play environment to support children's physical development. For example, children relish being able to explore the new and exciting outdoor areas as they learn how to manage risks for themselves. The childminder continually reflects on her practice to evaluate what is working well

and what needs to improve, to help her improve outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not take full advantage of opportunities during planned activities to challenge the older children even more.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend even further the challenge for older children during some activities to enable them to reach their full potential.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interaction between the childminder, her assistants and the children, and reviewed the play equipment and resources. The inspector spoke with the childminder and her assistants at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the impact of teaching after viewing the activities. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding and talked to the children at appropriate times. The inspector looked at documentation, including a sample of children's records. The inspector discussed how the childminder evaluates her provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes relevant training and continues to update her knowledge about child protection issues. She is clear on the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She monitors her assistants' practice to ensure that children receive good-quality care and support. At times, the childminder has been working with more adults than she is allowed under her registration. This is an offence, but as this has been rectified with immediate effect and there is no impact on the children, Ofsted does not intend to take any action. The childminder constantly evaluates her provision and involves the parents and children. For example, she took account of the children's ideas when developing her garden recently. The revamped garden area has enriched children's experiences as they play outdoors.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular observations and assessments of children as they play. She uses the information well to offer children an exciting range of learning experiences that follows their individual interests. For example, as children ride their scooters outdoors, the childminder organises a road track to provide more challenge. Children show care and control as they negotiate the space and adjust direction to avoid each other. The children listen to stories attentively and actively join in discussions to recall what happened. They enjoy songs and rhymes, which introduces them to rhyming and the sounds of letters.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistants are kind and caring, supporting children's emotional and physical well-being very well. The childminder provides children with a strong base for developing their independence and gaining confidence in their abilities. She values all children and listens to them so they know that their views are important. Children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities receive good care and support. The childminder organises the environment effectively to make sure that all children can join in activities and are included. Children benefit from the provision of hot, nutritious meals. These are adapted to suit individual dietary needs to help promote children's good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and keen to learn. They practise early writing and speaking skills that help them prepare well for the next stage in their learning and for starting school. For example, children access a range of resources to make marks, and give meanings to the marks they make. Children behave well. They are kind and considerate to each other, for example, taking turns to use the popular scooter when playing outdoors.
