This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Staff miss opportunities to become actively involved in the children's play. Their deployment and interactions with the children sometimes resorts to merely supervising them. As a result, children's quickly loss interest in the activities provided. Daily safety checks of the outdoor area are not vigorous enough. Staff allow children to use a partially broken trampoline and unstable slide. This means children are at risk of potential harm. Staff do not always manage children’s behaviour in an appropriate way. On occasions, children are told that they must complete colouring activity as a form of punishment. Consequently, children are not supported to understand how to manage their behaviour in a positive way. The partnership with other settings, that the children attend, are not always successful in consistently exchanging information with regard to the children’s development and interests. This means that opportunities to further support children's progress are

sometimes missed. Staff do not support children in recognising the importance of a healthy diet and how good practices can contribute to their own going good health.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Some improvements have been made to address the weaknesses identified at the last inspection. For example, management and staff have a better awareness of the Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures. Staff support children to understand the importance of walking sensibly and listening to instructions when they are escorted to and from school. This supports the children to stay safe.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children and the activities they took part in. The inspector looked at areas of the premises used by the children and staff. The inspector spoke to staff and held a meeting with the manager. She looked at various documentation, discussed self-evaluation and reviewed evidence of the suitability of the committee and staff. The inspector took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Management have appropriate recruitment and induction procedures in place. All committee members and staff undergo Disclosure and Barring Service checks. Staff ensure the premises are secure and complete daily safety checks of the indoor and outdoor areas. However, the checks are not always thorough enough. Staff allow children to play on broken equipment and an unstable slide, which increases the risk of a potential injury. Management and staff have recently strengthened their child protection knowledge. They know how to raise concerns with local agencies. Since the last inspection the manager has put measures in place for the supervision of staff. This has been appropriately used to identify some staff training needs. For example, keeping first aid certificates up to date The manager completes some self-evaluation of the provision. This includes obtaining the views of parents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Staff do not consistently support and interact with the children as they play. They, occasionally, display a lack of enthusiasm and merely watch over the children. Even so, children are happy to attend and enjoy time with their friends. Children use their imaginations as they play in the pretend house. They look at books and have opportunities to draw pictures. Children learn the rules of simple board games. They enjoy making models out of construction resources explaining their ideas to their friends. Staff encourage parents to provide information about their child’s interests when they first attend the club. They make some observations of the younger children as they play and are developing procedures to share this information with their parents. The manger has begun to improve partnerships with the schools that children attend. However, the sharing of information is not always consistent enough. The means that opportunities to further

support children’s progress are sometimes missed.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children develop appropriate relationships with the staff and make new friends. Younger children have an allocated key member of staff when they join. This helps them to settle and develop relationships. Children are learning to share the resources and take their turn. However, some behaviour management strategies implemented by staff are not always appropriate. Children adopt appropriate hygiene practices. For example, they understand why they need to wash their hands before eating. Children are provided with a snack and staff run a tuck shop. However, staff do not always consider healthy food choices. This includes helping children to understand how food can contribute towards their good health. Children enjoy being active in the fresh air. They play football and climb on the climbing frame.
