This provision is good
The childminder demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of how children learn through play. She provides age-appropriate resources to support their learning well and helps them make good progress. The childminder is a good role model for children. She helps them to manage their behaviour and routinely offers praise for acts of kindness. Children happily share and show tolerance and respect for one another as they play. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder regularly updates them about children's progress. Parents provide positive comments on the level of care and learning that their children receive. The childminder has addressed the recommendation raised at the last inspection well. She regularly reflects on her work and makes changes that improve her practice to maintain good outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently recognise and use all opportunities to help children develop their emerging independence further and manage some age- appropriate tasks for themselves. The childminder does not consistently challenge and extend all children's learning to help them make the best possible progress at all times.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
make more consistent use of opportunities to encourage children's emerging independence even further strengthen skills in recognising the opportunities that arise, to continually support and extend all children's learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection and held meetings with her. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including attendance records, accident records, suitability checks, self-assessment information, and observation, assessment and planning records. The inspector considered the views of parents and carers through their letters provided on the day of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident in the procedure she would follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She ensures that children are safe. For example, she carries out regular checks of the areas used by children, and reminds them to walk indoors and not to balance on their chairs. The childminder monitors and tracks children's learning well to establish how well they make progress and to identify any areas where they are not achieving as expected. The childminder meets with other professionals to share ideas and good practice. For example, she has used new knowledge to swiftly access early help for individual children. The childminder effectively supports children and prepares them well to start school. She has clear links with the local school to help ensure continuity in their care when they move.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes ongoing observations and assessments of children. She uses the information well and takes account of their interests. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. For example, she reinforces their attempts to use language and introduces new words to extend their vocabulary. The childminder helps children to develop an interest in early reading. For example, they listen attentively to stories as she reads and thoroughly enjoy turning pages, anticipating what will happen next. Children have great fun developing their understanding of technology. For example, they excitedly turn handles on interactive toys and show their fascination when their actions produce movement and cars shoot off ramps across the room. The childminder supports children's creative and imaginative skills well. For example, they pretend that they are bus drivers, and make jewellery out of pasta.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder actively supports children's emotional well-being. For example, she supports them to settle quickly and develop a strong sense of belonging. The childminder encourages children's understanding of healthy lifestyles well. For example, together they discuss healthy food groups at mealtimes. Children are physically active and are encouraged to assess their own risks. They gain a good knowledge and understanding of diversity as they celebrate different cultures and festivals with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills in readiness for their eventual move to school. They are sociable, inquisitive and confident learners. Children develop their mathematical knowledge well. For example, they count, sort and match objects. Children learn about the concept of rhythm and test theories. For example, they sing and clap along to songs, and delight when toy cars fit into the parking bays that they have designed.
