This provision is good
The childminder has made significant improvements since her last inspection to raise the quality of care she provides. She has used professional development opportunities well to gain skills and knowledge of how children learn and develop, and to plan better to support individual learning. Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder maintains good partnerships with parents. For example, she seeks information about what children can already do to help her establish their starting points. She uses a daily diary to share what children are doing with her to help parents continue learning at home. The childminder provides stimulating environments for children. She has changed the way resources are stored and provided a book with additional resources for children to choose with what to play. Children are confident in making decisions about what and how they want to play. The childminder monitors her assistant well. She makes sure they have updated their

knowledge about keeping children safe and know what to do if a child has an accident.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities for children to explore and use different technologies to fully extend their understanding of the world. The childminder does not extend children's thinking and problem solving to support further their understanding of mathematics.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching indoors and outdoors. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written comments and responses to questionnaires. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of children's learning with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled paperwork, including policies and procedures, risk assessments, accident and medication records, self-evaluation, complaints, and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is keen to continue improving her provision. She uses feedback from parents and children to help identify improvements. For instance, she has responded to parents' request to do more reading and regularly shares books with the children. The childminder effectively targets skills she and her assistant needs to develop. For example, she recognised that she needed a better understanding for how to teach children aged under two years. She attended training for babies and provided more play materials for younger children. The childminder has updated her knowledge on how to promote children's welfare and keep vulnerable children safe. Safeguarding is effective.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers children new challenges. For instance, she provides more complex puzzles when children show they can easily complete simple ones. She encourages children's curiosity. For example, she asks questions about what they see and how they do things. The childminder encourages children's early reading. For example, she encourages them to identify the pictures, repeats the letter sounds and praises them when they recognise letters in their names, as they look through an alphabet book. The childminder supports children's imagination well. For example, she engages in conversation with them about the ride to the farm on a toy horse and the different things they come across.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder successfully encourages children's physical development. For example, she encourages them to use the pedals on the bicycle as they ride round the garden. The childminder teaches the children about managing risks, such as discussing that the light is green for cars, so they have to wait until it is safe to cross the pretend road. The childminder and her assistant also teach children about similarities and differences. For example, they share celebrations important to the children, investigating what happens in different places around the world and using children's home languages. Children learn about healthy choices, including through talks about what is good to eat at snack time.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have fun, learn well and make connections. For example, they use the pictures on the storage boxes to find the different toys. Children learn how to be independent. For instance, they put on their shoes to go outdoors, and competently use knives and forks to eat. They communicate well and use their imagination. For example, they pretend to visit a fast food restaurant to fetch coffee and ice cream for the childminder, and remind her to remove the lid from the ice cream to eat it. Children are prepared well for moving on to playgroup and school.
