This provision is good

 Children make good progress from their starting points. The staff team takes action to narrow any gaps with children's achievements. For example, children with English as an additional language are rapidly developing their spoken English.  The manager works closely with the local authority to help her to make improvements to staff practice. For example, there have been recent changes to the way they track children's learning, helping to see what support children need to enhance their development.  The manager works in partnership with parents. She gathers their views and uses this to help her to shape her service. For example, recent changes have been made to the menu to add more vegetables. This helps to support children's health and well-being.  Staff support children's learning well. For example, they take into account children's different abilities during group activities to help them progress with their learning and

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The manager and staff do not make the best use of the resources available to support babies' exploration and natural curiosity.  At times, staff do not build well on older children's interests to help extend their learning and development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 extend further the opportunities for babies to explore and develop their natural curiosity  make better use of opportunities that arise to build on older children's interests to extend their learning and development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the manager, her staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector observed children in the main play areas and garden.  The inspector looked at a sample of documents, including safeguarding and staff recruitment.  The inspector took into account the views of the parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The manager has worked on safeguarding issues since the last inspection. For example, all staff have their suitability checked prior to employment, including Disclosure and Barring Service checks and references. She now makes sure risk assessments are effective in helping to keep children safe. The manager and her staff have a clear understanding of child protection and the steps to take to if they have any concerns over the welfare of children. The childminder reviews her own, and staff, practice to help her to see what training they all would benefit from. Recent training has supported them with managing children's behaviour. This helps them to consistently teach children the appropriate behaviour to have during play. Children behave well. Staff work closely with other professionals caring for children, providing good continuity of learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The manager and staff work together with the parents to assess children's starting points. They use these, alongside the good quality assessments they carry out, to inform their planning. This helps them to provide activities to support children's learning and development. For example, a member of staff skilfully builds on a child's description of breadsticks as he said it tasted like, 'White liquid that does not melt in the mouth'. This encourages children to use language that is more descriptive. The manager reviews children's progress to help to make sure staff are working on children's learning and narrowing any gaps in development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff support babies' personal development well. For example, they give them cuddles of reassurance when they wake up, giving them plenty of time to readjust before they are ready to go off to play. Staff effectively support children's physical development. Children are highly skilled in getting dressed into their school uniform ready for their afternoon sessions at school. Children are also skilled in manipulating resources, such as threading beads, completing puzzles, and using pens and pencils to extend their small-muscle development in preparation for writing. Staff provide new experiences for babies during snacktime, for example, helping babies to taste new food. During the inspection babies enjoyed tasting oranges and sucking the juice out of the pieces.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are ready for the next stage with their learning and eventual move to school. They make good progress with their literacy development. For example, learn letter sounds and using these to start writing words. Babies learn new skills, such as learning how to crawl and walk, helping to support their physical development.
