This provision is good

 The childminder establishes strong working partnerships with parents. These help to ensure continuity and progression in children's care and learning.  Children achieve well in relation to their starting points and make good progress.  The childminder creates a very welcoming and nurturing environment. She knows children very well and responds to their every need. Children are happy and demonstrate strong attachments to the childminder.  Children's behaviour is good and they are learning to play cooperatively. The childminder gives frequent praise and encouragement to children for sharing and taking turns with their friends.  Children learn about families, traditions, similarities and differences between themselves and others. This contributes to their growing understanding of diversity.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasions, the childminder does not plan activities precisely enough to successfully meet the individual learning needs of different ages of children. Consequently, she does not fully support all children to achieve to the highest possible level in all aspects of their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 sharpen the planning of activities so that all children are able to achieve as much as possible in all aspects of their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through discussion and written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and the wider issues surrounding child protection. She understands her responsibility to protect children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas and thoughts. The childminder is experienced and qualified. She continues to identify further professional development opportunities, such as training that explores the use of natural materials in children's play. This has a positive impact on outcomes for children. The childminder evaluates her practice well and seeks the views of parents. Parents' views through conversation and written feedback are positive and show that they are happy with the good quality learning their children receive.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gets down to children's level as they play and they enjoy her involvement in their play. She provides activities that help children to develop their small-muscle skills and models and demonstrates how to use tools. Children squeeze, roll, poke and flatten play dough. The childminder inspires children's creativity with a wide range of resources for them to use. Older children use their imaginations to make birthday cakes and a king's crown from their dough. They recognise shapes and use mathematical language to compare size, such as big and small.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's health awareness and well-being effectively. She talks about food that is good for them and provides nutritious meals and snacks that are freshly prepared. Children get daily fresh air and regular exercise. They go on walks to local woods and parks and visit farms further afield. Children attend groups where they have opportunities to socialise with others of a similar age and make new friends. They learn routines that they will follow in school, such as putting on and taking off their own coat and shoes. Children acquire good independence and gain confidence in their own abilities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. They gain skills they will need in preparation for their future education. Children are enthusiastic learners who eagerly take part in all play. They persevere at tasks and show good levels of concentration. Toddlers are provided with opportunities to fit shapes into spaces and play posting games. Such activities help them to develop their hand-to-eye coordination and prepare them well for pencil and scissor control later on. Children lead their own play and enjoy small-world activities, such as playing with the train track.
