This provision is good
The childminder has made good progress in meeting requirements since the last inspection. She has improved her understanding of safeguarding and child protection and has systems in place for reporting concerns. She carefully protects children's welfare because she regularly checks the home to make sure it is safe and secure. Children develop well during their time spent with the childminder because she knows what they can do and encourages them to learn new skills. The childminder now uses regular observations to gather information about children's abilities, needs and interests. This means she can offer good support for children during activities to foster their curiosity and help them learn. Children are safe and emotionally secure with the childminder. She provides a very good level of attention to help them feel secure. This helps younger children develop confidence and older children feel at home.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder has formed good partnerships with parents and local schools. She finds out what children are doing at school and provides resources for children to extend their learning in her setting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not review her strengths and areas to develop to secure further improvements in her practice.
p.1
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the care the childminder provides for young children. The inspector observed children taking part in a planned cooking activity with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder about the improvements she has made since the last inspection. The inspector checked the home and play resources for safety. The inspector looked at children's assessments and learning journals. The inspector read written feedback from parents of children attending. The inspector looked at the childminder's policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has fully considered the actions from the last inspection and made improvements. She has developed her understanding of the requirements of the statutory framework and other government requirements. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has developed her understanding of safeguarding and updated her child protection and safeguarding policies since the last inspection. She is able to demonstrate that she now understands current issues and is able to fully protect children. She has not reflected on the improvements she has made to her teaching skills to allow her to develop her skills further. All required documentation, policies and learning journals are in place to support the smooth organisation of the setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has made improvements in the way she collects information about child progress. She carefully links the observations of children to areas of learning and plans activities to help them move on further. Young children enjoy looking at the photographs of activities and outings that the childminder collects. The childminder demonstrates that she is a skilful teacher and is able to support children well during activities. For example, during baking activities, younger children learn new words such as 'whisk' and 'lumpy'. They learn mathematical ideas as she helps them to measure and count the ingredients. Young children make rapid progress in their communication and language as well as personal development due to the effective support of the childminder. Their progress is carefully recorded and developmental records are shared with parents.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children respond well to the constant care and attention the childminder provides. Children are supervised well when they play and sleep. Younger children form secure attachments and show they are happy and settled in the childminder's home. Older children enjoy their time with their friends. Children's behaviour is good. Clear rules and expectations support positive behaviour and children show concern for others. The childminder has updated her paediatric first-aid training to ensure that children are protected in the event of an emergency. The childminder uses daily checks and risk assessments to ensure children are safe and secure at home and on outings. She provides home cooked meals, snacks and cooking activities to help children learn about healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Several children attending have been in the setting from pre-school to school age. This means they enjoy a sense of security because the childminder knows them well and supports their interests. Trips to local museums, parks and farms help children to learn about the local community. Younger children enjoy physical and emotional well-being with the undivided attention of the childminder. Older children eagerly join in with art and crafts such as making models of volcanoes in the garden. All children are prepared well for their next stage of learning and for school because they are interested in the range of activities in the home and on outings.
