This provision is good
The childminder has made good progress since the last inspection. She has completed a recognised paediatric first-aid course and holds a valid first-aid certificate. The childminder works in partnership with other early years settings that children attend. Her good communication and sharing of information ensures children receive continuity of care and learning. The childminder has developed a clear knowledge of the Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures. She is fully conversant with the action to be taken if an allegation of abuse were made against persons living in the household. A clear policy is in place and she ensures that mobile phones and cameras are not used within her home when she is childminding. The childminder uses self-evaluation to reflect on her practice. She talks to parents and children to gather their views and makes changes where felt appropriate to enhance the service she provides.
p.1
This provision is good
Records, policies and procedures required for safe and efficient management of the provision are well maintained and implemented effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always gather detailed enough information from parents from the start of their child's placement to clearly identify their initial starting points more precisely.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
seek more-detailed initial information from parents about what their children know and can do, in order to swiftly establish starting points and target early planning more precisely.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outside and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed an activity and discussed teaching methods with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, evidence of the suitability of adults in the home and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation processes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder takes rigorous steps to ensure children remain safe. She assesses hazards in all areas accessed by children and to minimise potential risks. The childminder is knowledgeable of the various signs of child abuse and neglect and the procedures for raising a concern about a child in her care. She follows secure procedures to help her to keep children safe when using modern technology. The childminder works in partnership with parents to ensure that the care provided meets their child's individual needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her knowledge of how children learn and develop to plan an interesting variety of activities that interests them and helps to build on what they already know. Children's language and communication skills are supported well. The childminder skilfully asks questions and gives them time to think about and formulate their response before they reply. Children recognise letters in the environment and link them to their name and the names of other people. They identify different colours and place them into small groups and confidently count how many are in each group. Children enjoy role play. They pretend to cook different food and share it with the childminder. Children talk about previous activities they have enjoyed. For example, children recall making pizza with different toppings during a topic about Italy. The childminder introduces different foods that come from Italy into their play, such as different types of pasta. Children explain that

they are cooking because they are pretending to be a chef.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well into the childminder's care and good relationships form through a gradual settling-in process. They develop confidence and independence in the daily routine and their personal care needs. Drinks are freely available and the childminder provides a variety of fresh fruit for snacks. She is mindful of individual dietary needs and preferences. Children learn about people, traditions and cultural events from around the world. The childminder introduces simple words in different languages to broaden their awareness even further. Children learn about their own safety and follow clear and consistent routines when crossing the road and when using equipment, such as scissors and equipment when visiting the park. Children's self-esteem is promoted by the childminder who is a positive role model and recognises children's efforts and achievements. They fully understand what acceptable behaviour is and use their manners
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The children make good progress. They develop the skills for future learning in readiness for the move to school. Children make independent choices from a variety of toys and lead their own play. They enjoy being creative using various materials, such as making prints with paint, and confidently identify different colours. Children enjoy sharing their news with the childminder. For example, they talk about experiences they have enjoyed at nursery and at home with their families.
