This provision is good

 Since the last inspection, management and staff have worked extremely hard at making good improvements to the nursery with the support of the local authority. They have rigorously addressed all the areas identified for improvement and show enthusiasm and a good capacity to continue to improve.  Partnerships with other early years settings that children attend are strong. Information is shared on a regular basis to promote continuity of care and learning.  Children enjoy taking part in a variety of activities and experiences. They are curious and eager to explore, both indoors and outside. Consequently, children make good progress in their learning and development.  Partnerships with parents are strong. Information is shared to ensure that key persons have a good all-round picture of children's development. Staff give parents ideas for learning experiences that they can offer their children at home. Parents also join

nursery sessions to take part in activities with their children.  Children have warm, secure attachments with the staff. Cuddles and hugs are shared and this nurturing approach helps young children settle well and feel safe.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The programme of professional development is not highly focused to target the development of staff in order to raise the quality of teaching to an outstanding level.  Staff do not always make use of opportunities available to fully support children's mathematical knowledge and thinking.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on the programme of continuous professional development so that the quality of teaching constantly improves, ensuring the very best outcomes for children  make even better use of opportunities for children to use and develop their emerging mathematical skills in their activities and routines.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector had discussions with the manager and staff. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of adults in the setting.  The inspector took the views of parents into account.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Managers and staff have attended relevant child protection training and understand their responsibility to keep children safe from harm. There are secure recruitment procedures and ongoing suitability checks are completed to ensure that staff are suitable to work with children. Management closely supervise staff's practice. They observe their teaching and care routines with children. They provide good support and coaching and staff attend some training in order to help improve their knowledge and skills. Staff have recently attended behaviour management training to promote consistency throughout the nursery. Effective risk assessments are in place and are implemented well to help identify and minimise any risks in the environment.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff know the children well. They continually interact with children and observe them as they play. Staff complete regular and accurate assessments of children's achievements. They use this information to plan stimulating activities to promote children's ongoing learning. Children's interests are developed very well and staff are creative in providing further challenges. Staff make sure that real-life experiences are provided for the children. For example, they provide real food in the imaginative play area. Consequently, children engage well in the activities and show an enthusiasm to learn. Management monitor the activities and children's achievements very well and continue to develop their systems to ensure that gaps identified in development are swiftly closing.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are motivated, confident and praised for their achievements. The change in structure to the playrooms and staff's consistent management of behaviour has led to children understanding what is expected of them. Consequently, children behave very well. Staff have a thorough understanding of children's needs and actively contribute to their well-being. Staff affectionately chat to babies as they change their nappies and cuddle them as they are bottle fed. Children gain a good understanding of how to be healthy and keep safe. They enjoy being active outdoors and learn to make healthy choices at mealtimes. Children gain an awareness of differences and similarities in their wider world. They play with a range of resources that positively represent diversity and enjoy visits into the wider community.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for their next stage in development and for their move on to school. Babies develop their senses well as they play. They delight in exploring the shaving foam, oats and contents of the treasure baskets. Toddlers have fun and develop small muscle movements as they manipulate the dough to songs. They also learn to sit and concentrate in small groups as they listen to their favourite stories. Pre-school children develop their own ideas and find ways to solve problems very well. For example, after wondering if the birds have enough worms to eat outdoors they decide to make their own bird feeders to hang out.
