This provision is good
The childminder is highly experienced and has a positive approach to her work, to improve the quality of the provision to benefit children. She uses her good knowledge of child development to provide a wide range of age-appropriate toys and activities, to help children make good progress. The quality of teaching is strong. For example, the childminder uses songs, rhymes and stories skilfully, to develop children's knowledge about letters and sounds. Children's understanding of the world is supported well. For example, the childminder talks about and celebrates different festivals with the children, to teach them about similarities and differences of people in their society. Children are extremely independent and display high levels of confidence. They thrive in taking additional responsibilities, for example looking after their environment and attending to their own personal care needs. Partnerships with parents and other professionals are superb. The childminder works

exceptionally well with parents and teachers at the school that children attend. For example, they share information and expectations for children's learning and behaviour.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder misses opportunities to encourage children to share their thoughts and ideas fully.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children, and spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation and a selection of policies including safeguarding procedures and Disclosure and Barring Service checks. The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress. The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation document and examined how she evaluates her provision, and targets areas for improvement. The inspector read written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection issues. She understands clearly how to help prevent children being drawn into situations which might put them at significant risk of harm and how to report any concerns. The childminder evaluates what she does effectively. She has acted quickly to address the weaknesses raised at the last inspection, to improve outcomes for children. For example, she ensures all household members have completed suitability checks, as required to help keep children safe. The childminder is active in seeking to improve her knowledge and skills. For example, following training, she increased her awareness of how to support children with different learning needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and monitors children's progress effectively, and plans for the next steps in their learning. She engages them in enjoyable conversations, developing their sense of achievements, such as by photographing children's work and activities, and encouraging children to talk about them. The childminder is skilled at building on what children know and can do. For example, during a cooking activity, the childminder introduced new words, extending their communication and language skills. Children were highly enthusiastic and motivated, such as when they measured and mixed the ingredients together, developing their mathematical thinking. The childminder develops children's early reading skills effectively. For example, she provides a good selection of books, and spends time listening and reading with children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children benefit from an incredibly warm, loving and highly sensitive childminder. They are extremely happy, settled and show an exceptional attachment. This nurtures their self- esteem and emotional well-being. The childminder uses the natural environment with great skill to support children who learn best outdoors. For example, children benefit greatly from the highly challenging age-appropriate activities, supporting their imagination and physical skills. Children become very adept such as when using a wide variety of large apparatus. The childminder is highly responsive to children, for example adapting the environments to meet their differing interests and needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for their future learning, particularly in their personal and behavioural skills. They behave extremely well and show great respect for their environment. For example, they are very keen to carry out age-appropriate chores, showing patience and perseverance. Children have lots of fun making seasonal cards and practising their early writing, supporting for example their creative and literacy skills.
