This provision is good
The childminder and her assistant work well together to provide a warm, sensitive environment where children have fun. Children engage deeply in self-chosen activities and eagerly join in at group times. Children are confident and happy. The childminder uses effective systems to monitor children's progress. She clearly identifies individual children's next steps and uses this to plan activities that help them to move forward. All children progress rapidly. The childminder sets high behavioural expectations and children behave extremely well. They look after each other and treat one another with respect. For example, older children help younger children as they independently pour water into a cup at snack time. The childminder has good relationships with parents and takes account of their views, together with advice from other professionals, to evaluate and continue to improve her provision.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder and her assistant do not give children sufficient time to think and respond to questions, to support their thinking and problem-solving skills. At times, the childminder misses opportunities to enable children to be creative and explore their own ideas, such as during art activities.

Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times during the day. The inspector observed the interactions between the adults and the children during indoor and outdoor activities. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector sampled various documents, including children's development records and qualifications, and suitability checks for the childminder and her assistant. The inspector sampled written feedback from parents and spoke to the children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant understand how to keep children safe, including the correct procedures to follow if they have concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder updates her policies regularly to ensure they meet current requirements. She is committed to making continuous improvements to her setting. She takes on board advice from other professionals, seeks training opportunities and gathers the views of parents, to improve the learning experiences for children. The childminder holds regular discussions with her assistant to offer ongoing support to improve the quality of teaching and care practices.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has high expectations of all children and continuously provides support for them to reach their next steps in learning. She shares children's learning with parents regularly and ensures this continues to be supported at home. She generally ensures that all children receive sufficient challenge during activities, such as by offering varying levels of challenge to suit different ages. For example, older children enjoy attempting to count up to 30, while younger children receive praise as they attempt to count to 10. Children learn to respect other cultures and value diversity, for example, through regular visits within the local community.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy a wide range of activities, indoors and outdoors, and demonstrate high levels of concentration. The childminder supports children to be independent throughout the day and teaches them to care and respect their environment. For example, children carefully tidy up toys with minimal support, and take off their shoes and hang coats on their pegs when coming indoors. The childminder often talks to children about how to be healthy, such as the importance of exercise and a healthy diet. Children enjoy nutritious meals and plenty of physical exercise daily.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children's learning needs are catered for well, including those children who speak English as an additional language. Through sensitive support, children quickly gain confidence and skills to communicate in English. All children receive plenty of support to develop their emerging mathematical and literacy skills. They are well prepared to move to nursery or school. All children show good or excellent progress from their starting points.
