This provision is good
The childminder has worked hard to successfully address the actions set at the previous inspection. She has implemented an effective process for the completion of the progress check for children aged between two and three years. Furthermore, the childminder provides parents with a written summary of their child's development. The childminder uses information gathered from observations and assessments to provide exciting activities and challenge children's learning. Children are making good progress and are being well prepared for the move to nursery or school. The childminder is a good role model. Children understand how to behave and are respectful and considerate to others. Children are happy, content and comfortable in their surroundings because they develop secure, emotional bonds with the childminder. The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the early years foundation stage. She has established links with the other settings children attend to

enable the sharing of information about their progress and future learning. Parents are very happy with the care and teaching their children receive.
p.1

The childminder's programme of professional development is not highly focused to help raise the quality of teaching and learning to a higher level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and the planning documentation. The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members and of the childminder's qualifications. She also looked at the childminder's self-evaluation form and discussed her improvement plan. The inspector asked the childminder questions about her practice at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of the written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the potential signs of abuse. She is clear about the steps to follow should she be concerned about the welfare of a child in her care. In addition, she conducts regular risk assessments of her home and before outings and has thorough policies and procedures in place. The childminder seeks the views of parents and children. She has regular contact with other childminders locally. This helps her to review her provision to identify and make improvements that have a positive impact on children's learning and development. For example, she has recently updated her outdoor space so that children can play outdoors in all weathers. The childminder has methods in place to track the achievements all children make towards the early learning goals. This helps to identify and address any gaps in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder invites parents to share initial information about their child's achievements and interests at the start of the placement. She plans a wide range of experiences based upon children's next steps in learning and their interests. Children relish delivering puppet shows and using their imaginations to create stories about jelly floods and fairies. The childminder promotes children's language well in a variety of ways. For example, she asks questions to encourage children to talk about their experiences and gives them plenty of time to think and respond. The childminder provides a range of fun activities to promote children's mathematical and literacy skills. Children happily draw animals and identify the shapes they see they have used.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are settled and at ease in the childminder's care. She actively listens to children and plays alongside them showing interest in what they do and say. This helps to build children's self-esteem. The childminder provides children with nutritious snacks. She supports them to develop an understanding of following a healthy lifestyle. The childminder encourages children to follow good hygiene practices and self-care routines. The childminder ensures that children value others by providing activities that look at different parts of the world, people and other cultures. They thoroughly enjoy making books on a variety of countries, including Brazil, and taking part in community events.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident learners and show that they are motivated to learn. They make their own choices in play and enjoy exploring and learning independently. Children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. The childminder effectively supports them to develop many of the skills they need for the next stage of their education.
