This provision is good

 The provider and manager have successfully addressed the areas identified for improvements at the last inspection. The staff team is fully involved in reviewing the provision. The provider takes into account comments from parents and children, which she uses to make positive changes.  The new manager has strong and effective leadership skills. He works with staff to support children's interest, curiosity and independence skills well.  Staff develop caring relationships with children. They provide a wide range of resources and activities, and offer encouragement, such as when playing alongside the children.  The behaviour of children is good. Staff effectively support children's awareness of what is expected of them and they encourage children to contribute towards the setting's rules. Staff praise and encourage children and celebrate their achievements. Children of all ages play cooperatively together.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, staff miss opportunities to encourage children of all ages and abilities to take an active part in activities, particularly those involving large groups of children, to enable them to enjoy all experiences fully.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review the organisation of large group activities, in particular, so children of all ages and abilities can participate and enjoy the experience fully.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector observed children's self-chosen play inside and outdoors, and planned activities.  The inspector took into account the views of children and staff spoken to during the inspection, and through parents' written feedback.  The inspector held a meeting with the managers at an appropriate time during the inspection.  The inspector discussed the self-evaluation with the managers and looked at relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability and training of all staff.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff have a good understanding of child protection issues and keep up to date with training to reinforce their knowledge. They are aware of who to contact should they have concerns about a child in their care. Staff supervise children well and ensure they are safe at all times. The provider completes thorough vetting and recruitment checks to ensure that staff are suitable to work with children. They have effective systems in place for monitoring staff performance. Staff are encouraged to update their knowledge and skills, such as through regular training. Partnerships with parents and other professionals are good. Staff and parents share information about children to ensure continuity of care and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children settle in well and, overall, they are keen to engage in activities. Staff gather important information from parents regarding their children's individual needs, likes and dislikes before they start. Staff use this information to offer relevant activities that match children's interests. Children have good opportunities to increase their listening and speaking skills. For example, staff ask children a range of questions and engage them well in conversations. Staff help children to use their imagination and encourage them to complete tasks independently. For example, staff explore with children ways to use fabric, such as helping them to find solutions for making a den. Children develop good social skills. They learn to share and take turns, such as with equipment. Children develop a range of physical skills. For example, they take part in a wide range of sports activities, such as tennis and football, and roll hoops and practise skipping.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff encourage children to be independent and take care of their own belongings. For example, children confidently get their packed lunches from their bags before moving to the dining hall for lunch. Children learn to develop secure friendships, which support them well for the next stages of their learning. Staff provide opportunities for children to rest as well as space for physical play. They are kind, caring and good role models for children. For example, they listen to children and consistently motivate them to achieve. Children receive lots of praise, are valued as individuals and express their feelings confidently. Staff help children learn how to keep healthy. For example, staff remind children to drink plenty to keep them hydrated, particularly after playing active games.
