This provision is good

 The childminder builds close relationships with the children. She shows a secure knowledge of their individual learning needs and children show that they feel secure in her care.  Methods of teaching and learning are good. For example, the childminder assesses children's capabilities when they first start and uses this information well to plan for their next steps in learning. All children make good progress from their starting points.  Children benefit from a range of activities across all areas of learning, which are age appropriate, challenging and reflect their interests.  The childminder is reflective of her provision. For example, she takes into account the views of the parents and children when evaluating the quality of the provision, to improve the service she provides.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always consider ways to enhance her professional knowledge even further, to remain fully up to date with all childcare issues, including relevant changes in legislation.  Occasionally, opportunities for children to access some resources are not always available, to enable them to extend their play ideas and make further choices.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review the organisation of resources, in particular, so children benefit from choosing from a broader range of options and learn to direct their own play  continue to pursue all opportunities for professional development, to enhance current knowledge and raise the quality of practice to the highest possible level.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children and the activities they took part in.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records, and the childminder's policies, procedures and parental feedback.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs that may raise cause for concern about a child's welfare and the local procedures to follow to protect children from harm. The childminder implements robust policies and procedures, and effectively evaluates her provision. She has made improvements since her last inspection. For example, she has introduced new resources, such as a number and letter line, to promote children's early literacy and numeracy skills. Additionally, she has developed her teaching methods and improved her interactions with children. For example, she engages in daily discussions with children to help them solve mathematical problems and learn new skills. The childminder successfully monitors and addresses any gaps in children's learning in partnership with parents, to help children achieve better outcomes.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a stimulating learning environment both indoors and outdoors. For example, children have access to the childminder's farm and allotment, where they learn how to care for living things. For example, they help to feed the alpacas, take the dogs for walks and tend to their own vegetable patch. Assessment of children's learning, including their starting points, is thorough. The childminder effectively identifies their next stages of learning and plans activities that are exciting for all children. The childminder has close bonds with the parents and regularly shares information with parents and other professionals, to achieve a consistent approach in meeting children's learning and care needs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have strong bonds with the childminder. The childminder has a calm nature when engaging with the children, which makes them feel at ease. For example, children respond well to her and are happy and confident in her care. All children settle quickly upon arrival. The childminder effectively attends to children's personal care, and provides a safe and secure environment for them to rest and eat. The childminder is a positive role model to children. Children behave well and show respect towards adults and one another. They are becoming independent; for example, they learn to wash their hands and attend to their personal care needs.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning. They acquire a range of skills that prepare them well for school. For example, they practise their counting skills and develop their use of mathematical language while exploring playdough.
