p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Although the childminder has enhanced her understanding of the seven areas of learning, her teaching and interaction skills are variable. This does not sufficiently encourage children to develop the skills to become inquisitive and curious in their learning.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder has begun to undertake some useful evaluation of her provision of care to bring about better outcomes for children. She has sourced training to improve her practice. The childminder has improved safety within her home and garden, and strengthened risk assessment arrangements. The childminder holds a current and relevant first-aid certificate. This training supports her awareness of what to do in times of medical emergency. Inspection activities
The inspector observed children in their play. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and children's records. The inspector spoke to the childminder about the improvements she has made since her last inspection. She read the self-evaluation form and took this into account. The inspector spoke to the childminder about the research she has made in relation to her understanding of the learning and development requirements. The inspector observed the childminder's home and garden. They spoke about the steps taken to reduce the hazards to children.

who attend. This requires improvement
Since her last inspection, the childminder has given consideration to how she promotes the learning and development requirements. She is able to demonstrate what she knows about the children in her care, and how she supports their interests. The childminder places emphasis on a suitable mix of adult-led and child-initiated play. However, the quality of teaching is variable and this impacts on how children engage in their activities. This does not support children well in preparing for their move to school. The childminder has considered how she will continue to improve her teaching by assessing children's progress and conducting observations to help plan for the next steps in learning. Although weaknesses in teaching remain, the childminder's knowledge of the areas of learning and of assessments, such as the progress check for two-year-olds, is much improved.
p.3
good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment. She is caring towards the children she looks after. They have a warm bond with her and appear happy and emotionally secure. The childminder provides a suitable range of toys and resources. She supports their health well. Children benefit from many outings to local parks or to the childminder's stables. They learn about the childminder's animals and about healthy foods. They take part in looking after the animals and in growing fruit and vegetables in the childminder's allotment. Children behave well and develop good social skills.
p.3
provision requires improvement
Although the childminder is not fully effective in promoting children's learning and development, she adequately meets the safeguarding welfare requirements. She has improved many aspects of her provision through personal research and has booked additional training to develop her skills further. As a result, the childminder demonstrates her commitment to achieve continuous improvement. The childminder has taken action to address the actions set at her last inspection. She has secured the fencing to her garden, has removed rugs that posed safety hazards and has covered water barrels. The childminder has undertaken a thorough risk assessment of her garden and, as a result, chooses only to allow children to use it under her direct and constant supervision. This is because she has a wildlife pond that she sometimes takes children out to observe. The childminder has updated her policies and procedures and uses these to underpin her

practice. This includes the safe use of mobile phones, cameras and social networking sites. The childminder demonstrates a better understanding of child protection matters. She understands the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child in her care.
