 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of her assistants and adults living on the premises.  The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection, viewed written feedback and a sample of parental questionnaires and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder and her assistants have an excellent understanding of how to recognise the potential signs of abuse and are confident in reporting procedures. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The experienced childminder is passionate, inspirational and is an excellent role model. She is constantly looking for inventive ways to enhance children's learning. She monitors the quality of teaching and coaches and supports her assistants to reach their full potential. She attends seminars and training events and uses the skills and knowledge gained to improve her practice. For example, she researched the importance of well-planned environments for young children. She then successfully transformed her playroom and garden to ensure that all children thrive in the exceptional environment. The childminder has recently identified the need to focus more on professional development opportunities for her assistants, in order to help them maintain

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Regular and accurate observations of children's learning are completed and their progress is very closely monitored. This helps the childminder to plan extremely precisely for children's next steps. Exceptionally strong links with other settings children attend have been developed. Toddlers and pre-school children excitedly join in with a parachute game. They are skilfully offered the right level of challenge as the activity is simplified so that the youngest children can achieve their goals. Pre-school children confidently complete simple additions. They use balls and are challenged to make four by adding two more. Toddlers practise their physical skills as they concentrate intently to keep the balls rolling on the fabric. Pre-school children are developing superb early literacy skills. They confidently trace the letters of their name in sand. Toddlers squeal with delight as they use finger puppets to help bring stories to life. Children are skilfully asked questions about the story.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

For example, pre-school children talk about what happened next in the story and toddlers are asked what sound the animals made. They become deeply involved in the discussion and their communication skills are exceptionally well promoted.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

All children are extremely happy and settled. Their physical and emotional well-being are superbly supported by the caring and attentive childminder and her assistants. Children's care routines are well planned and they are supported emotionally. For example, in preparation for changing nappies, toddlers are encouraged to change dolls' nappies and delight in doing so. Children are developing excellent self-care skills. All children help to serve food and persevere in tasks, such as peeling fruits. They show high levels of pride in their achievements and often request stickers as a reward.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children are well prepared for their next stage in learning. Pre-school children are achieving beyond their expected age bands in some areas and are exceptionally well prepared for school. All children are motivated to learn, engage in tasks for extended periods and show high levels of involvement at all times.
