This provision is good
The quality of teaching is consistently good and some practice is outstanding. The childminder provides a wide range of exciting and interesting activities. Children are challenged extremely well in their learning. They are continually absorbed in purposeful play and make good progress in all areas of learning. The childminder celebrates children's uniqueness. She teaches them about people from different backgrounds and communities, supporting them to respect others. The childminder works effectively with the local school to further support and value equality and diversity. The childminder effectively promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles. Children are active. They eat healthy meals and snacks. The childminder skilfully incorporates discussions about healthy choices when young children are pretending to feed their dolls. The childminder regularly refreshes her safeguarding training and has a comprehensive

knowledge in this area. She effectively implements policies that protect the children in her care. Partnerships with parents are positive. Parents are happy with the service the childminder provides and comment that the range of activities is exceptional.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather enough detailed information from parents about what their child already knows and can do when they first start at the setting to enable her to plan precisely from the outset.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

gather more detailed information from parents about their children's capabilities on entry to the setting, in order to help plan more precisely for their learning from the outset.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed an activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and a range of other documentation. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises and the childminder's qualifications. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
A good evaluation process shows that the childminder is clearly aware of the strengths of her practice and any areas to be developed. Parents' and children's views are sought to improve the setting. Regular training demonstrates her commitment to ensuring that she improves her provision and the outcomes for children. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. All adults within the home have undertaken suitability checks. The childminder holds a current paediatric first-aid qualification and knows how to deal with any accidents or injuries children sustain. She regularly reviews the educational programmes to ensure that all children make good progress. Effective partnerships with other early years settings that children attend promote continuity of care and learning when the care is shared.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a very good understanding of how children learn and develop. She completes the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years in a timely manner. Parents are involved in the process and the childminder provides them with a summary of their child's progress. The childminder uses assessments of children's progress and their interests to plan for their next steps in learning. For example, children's interest in bubbles is used to support mathematical language. The childminder challenges the children to pop large and small bubbles. She also models other mathematical vocabulary to promote their understanding, such as high and low. She further extends this activity by asking the children to pop the bubbles with different parts of their bodies. The children are very excited by the activity. This motivates them to want to learn and develops their desire to try new things and to persevere with tasks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder places a high priority on keeping her child protection knowledge up to date. She fully understands the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder provides a safe environment and carries out regular risk assessments to minimise hazards to children. She seeks the views of parents and children. This enables her to develop her good practice further. The childminder has established links with other childcare professionals. This helps her to review the learning programmes that she provides for each child and maintain good learning experiences.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are active learners and have very good concentration skills. They are motivated and spend long periods of time engaged in activities. Children develop good communication and listening skills. Young children are learning to take turns and form relationships with their peers. Children make good progress in all areas of their development and are prepared well for school and their future learning.
