It is not yet outstanding because:

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about safeguarding procedures and how to protect children from harm. He tracks children's progress effectively from the start and quickly closes any gaps in their learning. The childminder builds good partnerships with parents from the beginning and he works closely with them to provide consistent care and learning experiences for children. The childminder reflects on his practice well and identifies improvements to build on the quality of the provision and children's outcomes.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder engages children in games that encourage their imaginations well, such as going on a train journey using cardboard boxes. Children really enjoy involving the childminder in their play and respond extremely well to him. The childminder helps children achieve and supports their learning well. For example, he supported children effectively to concentrate, count and thread reels onto the piece of string he was holding. The childminder plans activities each day that stem from children's interests. For instance, children asked to make crowns to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday. Children enjoy listening to the childminder reading books. He skilfully holds the attention of the different ages of children. For example, the childminder talked about the story, and asked and answered questions to extend children's understanding of it.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps children to settle-in gradually through his effective settling-in procedures. Children form close relationships with him and feel confident and happy. The childminder interacts gently and calmly with children. Children behave very well and they develop a good understanding of the behaviour expectations. For example, the childminder talks to children about being respectful and how behaviour affects other people's feelings. Children have ample space to play in the well-resourced playroom where they independently choose resources to play with. Children learn about being healthy. For example, the childminder talks about healthy eating and encourages them to understand the effects exercise has on their bodies.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are interested and motivated learners. Children suggest activities and ask many questions, showing they have enquiring minds. They show good levels of concentration during activities and cooperate well with each other. Children demonstrate their growing independence, such as asking to do things themselves and helping others. They make good progress from their starting points and develop skills in readiness for starting school.
