This provision is good

 Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder securely understands how to observe and assess children's development. She uses this information positively to plan the next steps in their learning.  The childminder is warm, caring and is passionate about childminding. She builds excellent relationships with the children to support their significantly strong emotional well-being.  The childminder provides an extremely relaxed and welcoming learning environment with a very wide range of resources.  The childminder has very strong relationships with parents and shares information with them well. This helps to promote a consistent approach in children's care and learning.  The childminder has a range of clear procedures that effectively support children's safety, well-being and learning. She shares these with parents to help them understand her responsibilities and supports positive partnerships.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the organisation of some toys and resources does not enable all children to make independent choices.  Occasionally, the childminder does not always provide children with the time they need to think about and express their ideas.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review and plan the organisation of some toys and resources to enable all children to make independent choices  provide children with the time they need to think about and express their ideas, and demonstrate their understanding.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked at children's assessment records and planning.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability.  The inspector observed activities in the environment, such as mealtimes.  The inspector spoke with and took account of comments made by parents.  The inspection spoke to children and the childminder, when appropriate, throughout the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder displays a good awareness of relevant child protection issues. She routinely reviews children's progress and is able to identify and address any learning gaps. The childminder works closely with parents and other early years professionals to help ensure she meets all children's individual care and learning needs well. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice. She effectively identifies ways to keep her knowledge up to date, such as support for children with additional needs. For example, she completes training courses, completes her own research and has discussions with other professionals.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is encouraging as she challenges and motivates children well. For example, she gives children puzzles that are more complicated when they easily finish one. The childminder encourages children's learning about colours, numbers and letters well. The childminder uses her resources in creative ways to stimulate children's interest. For example, children enjoy guessing what resources are in a bag from how they feel. All children develop an interest in pre-writing activities, such as colouring and drawing. Children display very good levels of focus and concentration when they carry out tasks or engage in activities. For example, they competently follow instructions and find certain objects when asked.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder supports children's physical well-being extremely well. For example, children eat highly nutritious snacks and have excellent opportunities for their physical development in the fresh air. Children behave exceptionally well and understand right from wrong. The childminder is highly effective as she supports children with positive praise and consistent boundaries. The childminder has an excellent understanding of how to help children manage their behaviour. For example, she encourages them to negotiate with others as they play and to manage their feelings. Children learn to be kind and understand the different needs of others. They are particularly keen to help the childminder. For example, they willingly put toys away and enjoy the responsibility of helping with small tasks. The childminder is highly effective as she promotes children's independence in their personal care and hygiene routines.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They are eager to learn and to take part in activities. They gain skills they need for the next stage in their learning or for the move on to school.
