This provision is good

 Managers have clearly defined roles and responsibilities. They lead and manage the staff well, to promote children's safety and well-being effectively.  Children form close relationships with their key persons and other staff who care for them each day.  Staff plan and provide a broad range of learning opportunities that match children's interests and abilities. Children make good progress in their learning.  Children's mathematical understanding is developing well.  The management and staff have strong partnerships with parents, which supports children's learning at home and in the nursery.  The management and staff aim for continuous improvements in the care and learning they provide for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although children enjoy a good range of resources and activities, they have fewer opportunities to learn about the local environment and other places.  Staff do not take every opportunity to help younger children learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase opportunities for children to learn about the local environment and other places, to strengthen their understanding of the world  provide more opportunities for younger children to see positive images of people from a variety of backgrounds, to help develop further their understanding and respect for the differences among people.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the premises with the manager.  The inspector had discussions with the registered individual and manager, checked a sample of documentation and carried out a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector observed staff's interaction with children indoors and outdoors.  The inspector spoke to the staff and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to at the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Staff carry out regular risk assessments to minimise hazards to children. The manager regularly reviews risk assessments and updates procedures after any accident, to keep children safe on and off the premises. There are effective recruitment procedures in place to ensure that only suitable people look after children. The leaders and manager have well-organised systems for the continual assessment and development of staff. They actively encourage staff to attend ongoing training. This has led to consistency in staff's childcare practices. In addition, the nursery receives support through early years advisors and partnerships with other providers. Leaders and managers have addressed all actions and recommendations set at the last inspection. They continually reflect on what is going well and on areas to develop in order to improve the quality of care and education they offer to all children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff have a secure understanding of how children develop and learn. They make regular assessments of the children's abilities and identify the next steps in their learning. This ensures that effective learning takes place for all children. Babies and children have access to an interesting range of resources that enable them to make choices about their play and learning. All children are making good progress in their communication and language skills. Older children are keen to practise their early literacy skills. They are learning to read and write one or two familiar words, such as their first names, and to recognise the sounds that letters make. Staff provide daily opportunities for children to develop and express their creativity. For example, babies and toddlers explore making marks using their hands, fingers and feet. Older children enjoy expressing themselves through drawing, painting and making models.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The staff obtain valuable information from parents when children start, and then on a continual basis, to meet children's individual needs well. Children's behaviour is good and, overall, they play cooperatively with their friends. For example, older children know to wait their turn during games and some show their friends how to use the computer. Staff's effective daily routines enable children to play in a clean environment where they learn to follow good hygiene practices. Children enjoy healthy snacks with fresh fruits and nutritious, well-balanced meals. Children's physical skills develop well. For example, older children are competent when using the climbing frames and they show good coordination when jumping, running and balancing.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points. Younger children gain useful skills for the next stage in their development. Older children are well prepared for their move to school.
