p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder's practice is inspirational and contributes significantly to promoting children's safety and welfare. She continues to update her knowledge and constantly reviews her practice to enhance children's experiences. For example, she continually adapts activities to make the best use of children's differing skills, which inspires all children to participate. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of her responsibility to protect children and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns. She teaches children how to keep safe so they learn about risks in the environment, such as how to cross the road safely. Parents receive detailed information about the childminder's provision and their children's care and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder offers activities that children thoroughly enjoy and that continue to extend their learning as they play. She has an excellent understanding of how children learn and how this relates to the children in her care. She places a strong emphasis on helping children acquire the skills to be ready for the next stage in their learning. The childminder assesses children's progress and works exceptionally well with parents and other early years providers to complement children's learning. She helps children learn about letters and the sounds they make to follow on from learning at school. For instance, children have fun thinking of a fruit or vegetable that links with the letters on the pebbles. Children thoroughly enjoy their time at the childminder's setting. They take an active role in the planning of activities and their suggestions are used for future topics. The childminder makes excellent use of spontaneous everyday experiences to follow children's

questions and interests. She builds mathematics into daily routines to successfully support children's learning. For example, she encourages them to count the number of cups and to work out how many more they need to make a certain number.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children's welfare and personal development are central to the childminder's practice. She removes any barriers to ensure they are all able to join in activities. Children show high levels of independence and are confident to try to do things themselves. On occasion, the childminder does not recognise some opportunities to promote children's independence skills further. Children play together exceptionally well. They willingly share resources, and value each other's views and achievements. For example, as they paint their clay models they make positive comments to others, such as, 'Yours is awesome'. Children develop high levels of self-esteem and a positive sense of themselves as they talk about their own experiences during their day at school.
