This provision is good

 The childminder has a strong drive for continuous improvement. Since the last inspection, she has made positive changes to her setting. She has developed her skills and knowledge of children's learning and development. This has a positive impact on the quality of care and learning opportunities that children receive.  The childminder provides a good quality of teaching for children in her care. She organises activities that motivate children in their play and monitors children's development closely. As a result, children make good progress considering their starting points.  The childminder and her assistant provide a warm, welcoming setting, where children develop secure emotional attachments that support their emotional well-being.  The childminder places a strong focus on supporting children's communication and language skills. As a result, those children who are learning English as an additional

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children are not always encouraged to take the lead during focused activities planned by the childminder.  Children do not always have enough opportunities to extend their early writing skills.

 encourage children to take the lead when working with adults  strengthen opportunities for children to extend their early writing skills.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed teaching and the impact this had on children's learning, both inside and outside.  The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant, and children during the inspection.  The inspector took into account the view of parents provided in writing, on the day of the inspection.  The inspector toured the parts of the childminder's home children use.  The inspector checked for evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her assistant, looked at a selection of children's records and safeguarding policies, and discussed the self-evaluation process.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibility in supporting children's learning and promoting their welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant know how to keep children safe. They know what action they would take if they had concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder provides children with good quality learning experiences. She monitors the progress that children make and uses this information to plan children's learning. Parents are fully involved in their children's learning. The childminder regularly reviews the quality of the provision for children and identifies training opportunities that improve the quality of the practice of her assistant, and herself. As a result, children's progress is checked closely, and activities are planned from the childminder's observations, to provide greater learning opportunities.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistant provide children with good quality teaching. They have a good understanding about individual children, and what they can do. This means that they are able to plan for children's learning from the very beginning. Where children are not achieving, the childminder swiftly puts plans in place to support good progress and to help them to catch up. The childminder places a strong focus on children's communication and language skills. She consistently uses opportunities for children to use their home language in play. For example, children learn nursery rhymes in their home language and the childminder then models these in English. Therefore, children rapidly learn new words and build upon their communication and language skills well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop strong relationships with the childminder and her assistant, who are kind and attentive to their individual needs. Therefore, children demonstrate they are happy and confident, and keen to learn. The childminder teaches children about healthy lifestyles through her daily routines. For example, children enjoy a variety of nutritious meals and snacks that promote their physical health. Children learn about positive behaviour when playing with their friends. They take turns and share so that they learn to value and respect the needs of others. As a result, children develop strong friendships.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points. Children learn good self-care skills and manage some of their personal needs independently. Children learn good routines that prepare them for their next stage in learning, such as going to pre-school.
