This monitoring visit
Staff are not provided with crucial training in a timely way. Staff only recently completed paediatric first aid training. It is of great concern that the centre had been accommodating families since March, with a large percentage of staff not having received paediatric first aid training. This inaction was a potential risk to children.
- Blaby Pre-School30 Jan 2025Inadequate
Blaby · LE8 4FA

provision
The manager and staff are very aware of their legal responsibilities to safeguard children and promote their learning and development. Management, alongside staff, regularly update a good range of documentation, which includes policies and procedures. The nursery building is secure and all areas of the children's environment are clean and tidy. Registers are completed promptly, and incident and accident logs are monitored to identify any risks to children. Staff are aware of the content of risk assessments and act to ensure that children are kept safe. All staff undertake paediatric first aid and safeguarding training. This ensures they understand their roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe and protecting children from abuse and neglect. Staff are deployed well so that all children play within close proximity to a staff member who has current paediatric first aid training. Staff are clear about what steps to take if they have concern over the well-being
- The Pavilion Nursery19 Sept 2017Requires improvement
Brent · HA9 8NP
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The manager does not ensure staff caring for children have completed relevant paediatric first-aid training. Sometimes, staff do not engage children, older boys in particular, or fully challenge what they know to help extend their learning further.
- Earlyworld Kids Club9 Nov 2022Not met
Kingsway West, CHESTER, CH2 2LA · Part of Earlyworld Limited
This provision does not meet requirements
Leaders have not ensured that staff have appropriate paediatric training in first aid. This means that they are not qualified to administer first aid in the event of an accident. Furthermore, staff knowledge of child protection matters is not sufficiently embedded. This compromises children's well-being and puts children at risk of harm.

Summary of outcome
On 23 August 2022, the provider responded to the actions set. We found that the provider had improved their safer recruitment procedures to help ensure staff are suitable for their roles. Suitable arrangements are in place to supervise staff while checks are ongoing. Safeguarding training is now at the forefront of inductions for new staff. There are now two paediatric first aid trained staff on site, with another due to attend training soon. The provider has recruited new staff, and this means the qualification requirements are now met, including having a named deputy manager. The staff have received support and training from the local authority on how to use more effective strategies to help children manage their feelings and behaviour.
- The New Montessori Pre-School22 May 2023Inadequate
WORTHING, West Sussex, BN11 4ET
The provision is inadequate
Children's safety cannot be assured. No staff on the premises hold a valid and up- to-date paediatric first-aid certificate. This means that staff are not trained to administer emergency first aid if necessary. This is a breach of the safeguarding and welfare requirements.

Summary of outcome

- Kozee Kidz Nursery8 Aug 2016Inadequate
Barnsley · S75 6AL
This provision is inadequate
Staff do not have enough understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse and the procedures to follow should there be a concern about a child's welfare. This means they are not able to respond in an appropriate and timely way should the need arise. There is not always a member of staff with a current paediatric first-aid qualification on duty at all times. As a result, children's safety and well-being are compromised in the event of an accident or illness. Staff involved in preparing and handling food have not received training in food hygiene. Staff do not always make the best use of opportunities to teach children about everyday technology. They do not consistently encourage children to explore and practise using technological resources in their play.

provision
The setting enjoys outstanding, astute leadership and management. The staff are highly qualified and with excellent understanding of the learning and development requirements for babies and pre-school children. Robust systems and procedures at all levels combined with an experienced highly skilled staff team means that the setting runs exceptionally well. The training manager monitors the training matrix closely so that all staff are up to date with their training, including safeguarding and current paediatric first aid training. Staff are highly motivated and seize every opportunity to further improve their already first rate practice. Managers have a precise overview of the quality of teaching, learning and assessment from frequent room observations, data analysis and monitoring. The progress check at age two is firmly in place. Accurate self-evaluation involves the views of parents and children alongside those of staff. This has a significant impact on children's

26 November 2024 n Children's physical development is promoted well. They thread beads on to string as they make their own bracelets. Children press resources into salt dough and model it into different shapes as they make characters. This helps to develop children's smaller muscle movements. n Staff plan opportunities to develop children's growing independence. They encourage children to carry their own plates back to their tables after selecting their snack. Children wash their hands by themselves before eating. They manage their own personal hygiene well. Children are sometimes cared for by staff who have not completed first-aid training. This means that there is a risk that these staff may not recognise that a child needs help or have the skills to give the right support. This issue had not been identified by managers. It was confirmed during the inspection that the staff who do have the required training are booked to complete this.
- Grunty's Day Care4 Mar 2024
Blackpool, Lancashire, FY3 0AX
Summary of outcome
On 26 February 2024, we carried out a regulatory visit. We found the provider ensures that staff receive appropriate induction training to support staff to understand their roles and responsibilities in working with children. The provider's first aid arrangements are clear and robust, with the majority of staff being trained in paediatric first aid. Staff are knowledgeable and know how to respond to a first aid emergency quickly. Furthermore, the provider has ensured that staff who work with children under two have received training in the care of babies. This results in staff who understand how to meet the care and learning needs of babies.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. Staff have a good understanding of child protection procedures and know how to keep children safe. They complete regular training that supports their professional development. For example, they regularly renew their safeguarding and paediatric first aid training. Staff take appropriate action to reduce any risks to children's safety. They make sure children are well supervised, especially when there are school sports matches taking place on the premises. The operations director has a good understanding of his role and responsibilities. He makes sure children can play in safety, engage in activities and have fun. He works closely with the operations manager to coach and support staff. The organisation offers all staff opportunities to gain a relevant qualification and progress to senior posts.

The safety of children
Staff have not had the necessary training to support children safely and effectively. This includes several staff not being first-aid trained. The manager could not guarantee that there would always be a suitably qualified first-aid person on duty. Given one child’s potential to self-harm, this poses significant risk of physical harm to children.
