The children's home provision is good because:

enjoy. This helps to keep the children and young people occupied and enables them to forge trusting relationships with adults.  Although the registered manager has recently left the home, the interim manager has wasted no time in promoting positive outcomes for the young people and identifying areas for potential development. He has ensured that the staff are well supervised and that they and the young people are effectively supported during this period of uncertainty.  The home provides very good-quality, well-furnished accommodation. It is situated in an attractive semi-rural environment, with good transport links. The home is close to numerous amenities, including beaches, woodlands for exploring and walking, and large towns with a choice of sports and leisure facilities.

Recommendations

 For children’s homes to be nurturing and supportive environments that meet the needs of their children, they will, in most cases, be homely, domestic environments. Children’s homes must comply with relevant health and safety legislations (alarms, food hygiene etc.); however in doing so, homes should seek as far as possible to maintain a domestic rather than ‘institutional’ impression.
