Recommendations

 For children’s homes to be nurturing and supportive environments that meet the needs of their children, they will, in most cases, be homely, domestic environments. Children’s homes must comply with relevant health and safety legislations (alarms, food hygiene etc.); however, in doing so, homes should seek as far as possible to maintain a domestic rather than ‘institutional’ impression. improvement to be good

The home has had no children in placement since the end of July 2019. The managers and staff have taken this opportunity to train staff and redecorate the home.

Children are now allowed more freedom in the home and do not constantly have staff following them. However, the downstairs toilet remains locked and for staff use only. This is institutional practice. The home is more welcoming and domestic in its appearance. It is currently being redecorated, although graffiti from a child who moved out two months ago is still evident in communal areas. One child has redesigned the garden and has started to landscape it with help from staff. Interim inspection report children’s home: 1234163 3
